"Where is Barkfur?" Runningwish called. The group turned to her with saddened expressions. Heatherear, Longfrost, and their kits all surrounded Patchpaw in mourning. Longfrost's pelt died down. The spirit, Longtail, had stopped possessing him and he laid beside his mate with his head lowered.
Runningwish was receiving no explaination and she felt tension build inside her, a desperate need to know if this was one of her visions that she had long ago.
Sunscar had pulled away from the group and found Runningwish. The tabby looked over her.
"What happened?" She asked. Sunscar was obviously upset and in mourning.
"I killed Patchpaw." Runningwish blinked at her in shock.
"What..?" She asked. Sunscar choked on her words.
"Patchpaw was dying. I didn't know what else to do! I fed her a death berry to make it easier for her! Runningwish, she was in so much pain!" The medicine cat apprentice lowered herself to the ground and covered her head with her paws, whimpering softly.
Runningwish understood what happened. The vision that frightened her so terribly wasn't of her feeding a cat a death berry, she had a vision of Sunscar giving the berry to Patchpaw as she died. She felt sick to her stomach.
She wanted to ask more but Sunscar seemed to be in shock just as much as she was. She instead got her to stand up and took her to Snowpoppy's den.

Cheetahstep had run through the forest without a planned route. She wasn't in the proper condition to think clearly and she was limping due to her injury.
She had been stepping out of the medicine cat den to try and exercise her foot under Jayfeather's order and thats when it happened.
They brought Patchpaw's body into camp. Cheetahstep stopped when her paws hit deep water and she scurried back onto dry land. She had made her way to the edge of the lake somehow.
She collapsed from her despair. She should have been there to protect Patchpaw! It was because of her the apprentice died! She could have been stronger, she could have been there if she didn't let her injury be an excuse!
Cheetahstep's ears twitched instinctively as someone approached. She could care less at the moment what Runningwish had to say to try and make her feel better.
She went to look up at her friend but only saw a brown tom looking down at her.
