He was home alone? He said he was busy this weekend, why was he home alone? You thought about it for a minute, how were you going to reply to him? You could be casual, but you also had a ton of questions for him. After about two minutes of considering all your options you texted Calum and asked for his address. Less than 20 minutes later you were standing at his front door, still thinking this had to be some sort of mistake. You only knocked on the door once before Calum was standing there with a big cheesy grin on his face.
After Calum and you talked for a minute he led you over to the living room, "hey, I thought your friend was going to marathon Netflix with you too?" The first thought that occurred to you was that maybe Calum was actually hoping for your friend and not you. You said the only other thing you could think of, "I thought your uncle was in town and you were busy?" You could see Calum was blushing a bit, but he smiled, "yeah, he is, but he went to the casino with my parents so I'm here."
The two of you didn't talk much for the first hour, it was a lot of awkward silence in-between episodes. Then the door creaked open and Calum's parents stood there smiling, "well, I see why you didn't want to come to dinner now." You kept waiting for his uncle to walk in, but he didn't. Calum spoke to his parents for a couple minutes and then they left again. You didn't want to be too skeptical of Calum, but you couldn't help but ask him about it. "So, your uncle isn't in town I take it?"
Calum didn't say anything, he just kept staring at his phone texting. You were getting frustrated, he was playing with your emotions, "Calum, what is going on? I want the truth."
He winced when you spoke and then stared at the ground, "right, the truth, well, the truth is that I don't know how to act around you. Dances terrify me, and I wanted tonight to just be me and you. The truth is that you scare me shit-less."
You held his hand and smiled, "oh Calum...you scare me shit-less too!"
You both felt the energy between you. You had liked Calum for a while, and this was the moment you had always wanted. His eyes glittered gold when the light reflected off of them, and you wanted nothing more than to just live right there, in that moment. But then you realized, your life is not a Nicholas Sparks novel, and there had to be a catch here. You pondered what could go wrong within the next few seconds, but before you could even finish consider a fire breathing dragon coming to take you away to highest skyscraper in the land, Calum leaned forward and kissed you.
Ah, and there was the catch. It was awkward, to say the least, you and Calum still didn't know each other very well. You had only met two months ago, and three of those weeks you spent on school break. It was also probably awkward because he was off center and was kind of kissing your chin too, but he was doing his best. So, I suppose it wasn't a horrible catch. And as you awkwardly kissed him back, you were pretty happy. Yes, you and Calum still needed to get to know each other better, and that will probably go down as one of the most uncomfortable kisses in history. However, you could not think of a better first kiss, and neither could Calum for that matter.
