Chapter 9
Riker POV
Lexi didn't pull away immediately, like I thought she might. But when she eventually did, she seemed surprised and embarrassed. She wouldn't look at me.
"Lexi?"
Nothing.
"Lexi."
"I don't know why! Ok!?"
Lexi got up and walked out of the room. I followed her to my room.
"Lexi-"
"Don't be mad at me! I don't know why I did it, or what I feel! I just did it, ok!?"
Lexi started crying, and it sounded like she could barely breathe. I walked over to her, and put my hand on her shoulder. But she pushed me off, and locked herself in the bathroom.
I got in bed because I didn't know what else to do. I didn't even know why I did it either! I hadn't really thought about Lexi like that before! Except... maybe her eyes...
Her crying started getting louder, and I was afraid her parents would yell at her. The poor girl has already been through enough. The last thing she needed was to be punished even more.
I walked to the bathroom and knocked lightly.
"Go away, Riker!"
"Lexi, can we please talk? I'm not mad."
I tried the doorknob, and it was unlocked. Lexi was sitting on the ground, leaning against the wall. She had her hands covering her face. I sat down beside her, and put my hand on her arm.
"Lexi."
"I'm sorry, Riker! Please don't hate me! You're literally my only friend, and if I lose you too, I don't know what I'll do!"
"Shhh! Calm down. It's ok. Let's go to your room and talk about this, ok?"
Lexi turned towards me, and wrapped her arms around me. I decided to pick her up and carry her to her room. I put her down on her bed, and sat next to her.
"Riker, please don't hate me!"
"I don't! Lexi, it's ok! I promise!"
"Are you sure?"
"I'm positive."
"Riker, you're my only friend. And I really don't want to ruin that."
"No, we're totally still friends."
Lexi hugged me again. I hugged her back.
"Do you want to talk about it?" I asked.
"No. I just want to go to bed."
"Ok. Goodnight, Lexi."
"Goodnight, Riker..."
I went back to my room and got in bed. So much had happened today, and it was all swirling around in my head. Does Lexi like me or not? Do I like Lexi or not? I was also kind of shocked that she called me her friend, but it made me feel good. And why did we kiss!? It's not like one of us kissed the other. We were both kind of responsible.
The next day...
Riker POV
After I woke up, I went to see if Lexi was awake. What else did I have to do?
"Hey," I said, walking into her room.
"I don't want to talk about it, ok? Not yet."
"All I said was hey."
"I know. But seriously, I'm not ready yet."
"Ok. That's fine."
I sat down beside Lexi on her bed, wondering if I should even speak at all.
"Riker?"
"What?"
Lexi sighed. I was starting to get a little nervous.
"No matter what we decide, can we always be friends?"
"Yeah!"
"Ok, good."
"Lexi, am I really your only friend?"
"Yeah..."
"Wow..."
Later...
Riker POV
Lexi and I had decided we'd talk about everything after dinner, and now it was after dinner!
Lexi came into my bedroom.
"Ready?" I asked.
"Yeah..."
Lexi sat down next to me.
"Um... So what do you think we should do? How do you even feel about everything?" Lexi asked.
"Uh... I don't know. I've only known you for like 2 weeks. Maybe if I knew you better, I'd have a clearer answer..."
"Are you saying you want to get to know me better?"
"Well... yeah. But I don't know if that should mean dating or not. I don't know if either of us is ready."
"Well... Can we try it?"
"Really!?"
"Yeah...?"
"Ok!"
I was secretly happy. I really cared about Lexi. And I hated how she treated me sometimes. But maybe this could fix that.
Lexi wrapped her arms around me. I hugged her back.
"There's only one rule. Don't tell my parents."
