Fight For Them

Renji lead me inside the cafe.

Regardless of the warmth inside the cafe, I still started to shiver.

I was cold, really cold.

To hope that Juuzou will make it out alive was all I could do.

I couldn't explain my feeling either.

It was just.. there.

Renji pat my shoulder multiple times – not wanting to be too intimate with me.

I continue to sob but my tears started to dry.

"Mommy, are you okay?" Makoto asked.

Just then I realized that I had responsibilities. I didn't have time to be sad.

My kids weren't supposed to know about my fears. They had to believe that things will be okay.

I gotta be strong for them.

I rubbed my eyes one last time – they were red, but I hoped my kids wouldn't understand that I had been crying.

"Nothing sweety, mommy just felt a little sick" I lied to him.

"Oh, okay" he said as he bit his lip.

Renji handed another handkerchief to me.

I took it from him, turned around so I wouldn't be facing them, and then cleaned my nose.

Touka put one of her arms around my shoulder.

"He'll be okay" she whispered into my ear.

I just sighed and nodded.

"Do you wanna be alone for a bit?" she asked.

My thoughts began to drift off.

Of course I wanted to be alone, but I knew I couldn't be.

I had to be strong for my chlidren.

"No it's fine – but could you be so kind and prepare a coffee for me?" I suggested.

"Yes, sure" Touka said as she began to wander off to the counter.

After my last tears were dried off, I turned back towards my kids.

I stuffed the handkerchief in my pocket and began to search for a nice place to sit.

"We're heading into our rooms. It's safer up there" Renji said.

"Okay" I mumbled.

"Will there be toys?" Yuki asked.

Renji chuckled: "Sure, lots and lots of toys"

"Yay!" both kids began to clap their hands from excitement.

"I'll just finish the coffee real quick, then I'll follow you" Touka said.

"Alright – you should hurry though" Renji suggested.

She nodded in response.

"Lead the way!" Makoto demanded as he pulled on Renji's leg.

"Well big boy, if you'd let go of my leg, I could lead the way.. you know" Renji explained.

I picked up Mei and Yuno in their carriers.

"Sorry.." Makoto apologized.
