The term 'quite'
I've read this on tumblr.
Americans use 'quite' to amplify their enthusiasm for the adjective, in the way they'd use "really", "very" or "totally" while British people use 'quite' as "sort of" so if they said "that person is quite attractive" they are saying "that person is sort of attractive"
