I was late, and it was only the second week of school. It's not entirely my fault, since my mom woke up late as well, forgetting that she had a daughter that had to go to school. So here I was, in front of my second period class door, thinking when it would be the right time to burst in. There was no point in trying to sneak in, since my teacher had hawk eyes.
I breathed and pushed the door, anticipating everyone's eyes to watch my every move until I was seated and the teacher had glared at me for two minutes. I raised my eyes and glanced around the room, no one had noticed me slipping in because the room was in chaos. Everyone was hanging out, people laughing loudly, others looking like they were going to punch someone because they couldn't handle the noise, and then there was Candice.
She was glaring at everyone venomously from her seat in the front row, grabbing at a paper plane that someone had made and threw it into the bin. She dropped her head back in defeat when no one ceased the loud laughing, paper plane making, and basketball playing with the bin. I grinned at the mayhem, feeling excitement bubble through me at the thought of not having to do any work.
There was a sudden moment of silence and Candice sat up widening her eyes in relief at the peace and silence. Then it was broken when someone, Jaxon I think asked why it was so silent. The havoc returned, and Candice groaned and dropped her head onto her desk and turning her head in my direction. I slowly stuck my tongue out to her, keeping my face expressionless even though I wanted to grin widely and show my delight.
She jumped out of her seat, wincing when she hit her leg on the metal bar and rushed to me. She hugged me tightly, the way you do when someone you haven't seen for half a year came back. I patted her back, indicating her to let go since I wasn't a big fan of hugs. She let go and stared at me in awe as though I was her favorite singer. I smiled in amusement and raised my eyebrows in question, deciding not to talk considering we probably wouldn't hear each other.
She pressed her lips together, and squinted her eyes as though she would burst into tears any second. I let the grin free, wanting to laugh at the hideous expression on her face. Someone decided to play music and soon people were jumping on desks, lip-singing and dancing on the floor. Though the noise would probably make you deaf, everyone still heard the doorknob turning and rushed to their seats, hurriedly opening a book. Luckily my seat was near the door, so I slipped into it and Candice jumped over the metal bar and sat in the desk joined to mine.
The Math teacher who was titled to be the meanest teacher walked in with a scowl, eyes flaming with annoyance. I watched as he pushed through the aisles, kicking at the backpacks in his way. He pivoted when he reached the end and deepened his scowl and slammed the door, stomping back to his class.
I pursed my lips, wondering if that was his normal behavior. Candice mumbled something obnoxiously, gesturing her hands and rolling her eyes. I looked at her in silent query, pondering whether she knew something about the loathed Math teacher.
The dance was supposed to be tonight so we didn't do much of anything in all of my classes. Students were buzzing with excitement, girls hinting to their crush that they should go together. School went by surprisingly fast and there was half an hour to get ready.
I had thankfully convinced Candice that I'd be able to dress myself and do my hair and makeup, so she decided that we would meet in front of the doors. She also decided that I would wear heels. Ugh!

I pulled on the sleeveless white dress, it was tight against my chest but flows at the bottom. Once I pulled the dress on, I waddled to my dresser, trying to get comfortable in the new dress. It wasn't too short, ending just above my knees.I applied my makeup, consisting of eyeliner, pink lipstick, and mascara. I dragged my black 3 inch heels to my bed and stuck my feet in, bending down to adjust it. As I sat on my bed, I smiled that I had a friend, hopefully one that wouldn't backstab me, and even though I got bullied I knew I had a better life than other people out in the world.
Wow, that was deep.
I stood up, balancing myself on the heels and grabbed my wallet and phone. I slipped them into the pockets that seemed hidden and skipped down the stairs. I avoided my mother, sneaking out the door like a ninja.

The dance was surprisingly controlled, there were a few couples making out in the dark corners but most were dancing 'innocently' in terms of how they probably wanted to dance. I couldn't find Candice and assumed she was running a bit late, or asking people how they liked the dance. She had informed me that they had some entertaining videos that students had submitted and we're going to show in the middle of the dance. Half an hour more and the videos would be shown from s projector and everyone would be able to see it.
I looked around, grimacing when I saw those few rebels that were twerking. I yelped when someone grabbed my shoulders and screamed into my ear.
"HEY! YOU LOOK AWESOME-SAUCE!" I squinted my eyes, leaning away by instinct and glaring at the redhead that had broke my eardrums. Candice had blondish-red hair that stopped above her chest. She had braided a portion and pinned it back, wearing a green dress that didn't stick to her. I gave her a thumbs-up, gesturing to her dress since there was a faint ringing in my ears still.
She grinned back at me, locking her arm with mine and leading me to the snack table. I let her lead me, my eyes going wide at the small variety of snacks. There were only chips, soft drinks, for a dollar each. Candice pursed her lips and swiped a Sprite, slipping a dollar into the hidden box since the teachers were helping other students.
Soon enough, Candice had to go group with the student council so they could get the videos showing. I was rather excited because Candice had said they hadn't watched all of them either.
Most of them were just people videoing their friends doing silly things like having a thumb war, or arm wrestling. Apparently the last one was newly entered and as they played it, I recognised the location. The bus, it showed a boy's head and a girl opposite him, they seemed to be having a moment and the guy video recording shouted something and the boy grinned and walked off. The camera showed the girl's stars struck face.
It was my face. The same brown eyes, the same rosy cheeks.
Everyone was laughing, some turning as they recognised me, taunting me with their grins and giggles. The walls made the laughs seem louder, making me feel more and more humiliated. They suddenly parted as someone walked through, smirking and imitating the face frozen on the screen.
My face.
Shawn Evans. The name sounded so charming yet the person inside was so devilish. Charming in some ways I suppose, but so cruel. I kept the tears in, knowing I would look weak if I cried.
It isn't like you're already weak. My conscious taunted.
I stared emotionless--at least I hoped--into his smirking face.
"Omg! Shawn!" He imitated the face again, speaking in a high voice that sounded nothing like mine.
I narrowed my eyes and knew I couldn't hold it in anymore so I turned my back, and marched to the doors. My heels echoing in the sudden silence. Once I was out of the door I removed my heels and started running to my house. I could walk from school and back, but my parents thought it wasn't safe...especially at night.
Well, I guess we would find out.
