Over the years, I have had difficulties in making a sonnet of all lyrical poems. I don’t know why. I have made so many lyrical poems and free-verse poems as well, but despite that, I still can’t create a beautiful sonnet…until this.

Lo and behold…my very first sonnet:

-------------------------

SONNET FOR THE NORTH WIND

Breathe thy soothing kiss to me, O north wind

For tomorrow I may leave summer’s land

With all my greatest plans in mind, rescind

By the luscious cloud’s interfering hand;

Feel my chest and hear its eternal beat

Like African drummers evoking love,

Touch me as they beat for you and entreat

To take my wish before it pours above.

Hear me, my dear, for I have but few left

Of this season’s enchanting hues and bliss,

I know not what I soon may be bereft

Into that cold region I soon may cease.

I shall live for today and tomorrow

With thoughts of you I am content to know.
