I've studied such topics as hospitals, more specifically how people describe hospitals, and I've come to the conclusion that it isn't the stench of death and sorrow that makes me squirm in my seat.
It's actually the white walls.
I don't have much evidence besides my own opinions but I realize if I make white walls sound deep and meaningful, you'll look at walls in a whole new way.
Sitting in that waiting room, there wasn't much to look at. Besides the Victoria's Secret Magazine there was to look at. Just the white walls and what looked like a hairy pimple on the receptionists chin. I'd rather look at the walls.
The thing about white walls is that they look like they were unfinished. Like the inspiration for the painter had died and the painter had left it half done. Like there was more he could've done with the wall.
But he didn't.
I stopped looking at the walls because they reminded of someone I knew. Someone I was starting to hate.
And now I know why hospitals have white walls. It's cheap and no one notices the unfinished look.
And that's when I get up and leave.
