Kori panted as she ran after the little boy dashing across the grassy lawn. She was turning thirty eight that year and thought that she had had experienced enough exhaustion in the past years to last her for a life time.

She was barely keeping up with Yui who had always been a definition of energy and glee.

The boy laughed at the wheezing Kori, “Come on, Miss Kori! Run!”

            “Yui,  you—huff—silly little—huff—boy! Stop running—huff—you might stumble!”

Yui grinned mischievously, raised his eyebrow, jumped high, spun in the air and landed with a soft thud on his feet, “I’m strong, see?” then he shrieked with hilarity again and rushed towards the gate.

Kori gasped, “Yui! You’re not supposed to go out! Your mom would kill us both!”

But the boy slid the gate open, smirked at Kori and ran off.

“Kid, watch where you’re going!” An incredibly large man with thick black eyebrows and an unkempt beard glowered down at Yui.

The child glowered back, “You stomped on my foot, mister! I didn’t do anything to you!”

The man chuckled, bent down and stared malevolently at Yui, “You’ve got some nerve, huh?” he flexed his fist and snorted, “I haven’t tried breaking little children’s bones. You want me to test on you?”

Yui pushed himself up to his full height, “Really, mister? Let me see you try.”

            “WHY YOU—”

Yui flinched as the large man raised his fist.

“Watch where your hand goes, mister or I’ll shove it up to your nose.”

Yui blinked and looked up as a tall, brown spiky haired man approached them.

“And who the hell are you?” the large man asked.

The tall man laughed jauntily and ran a hand through his hair, “The name’s Sagara. Sagara Shin,” Shin looked down at Yui, offered his hand and smiled, “Come on, little one, I’ll help you get up.”

            Yui glared at Shin’s hand.

Shin chuckled, “You’re stubborn, aren’t you?”

“I don’t need your help!” Yui yelled.

“I guess not,” Shin shrugged, “But see, little one,” he bent down to whisper into Yui’s ear, “I don’t really like this guy, so could you please allow me to punch the big idiot in the face, and then we’ll have some rice cakes afterwards, like that?” he winked.

Yui crackled and nodded, allowing Shin to help him up. He then watched as Shin stepped up in front of the large man and silkily said, “You really had the nerve to try to beat the child, didn’t you?”

The large man spat on the ground, “It’s because no one goes against me. I won’t spare anyone.”

“You’re a disgrace to the society,” Shin said, narrowing his eyes into slits. He raised his fist and punched the large man in the face. The man flew high in the air and landed with a painful crunch on his face some ten feet away from Shin and Yui.
