The bitter cold air filled his lungs as he took a deep breath in, his breathing hitching from the cold. Raising a hand to his mouth he coughed gently, the cold never bothered him much nor did he bother to put on a jacket as he left the apartment he resided in. He glared up at the sky, letting out a deep breath he didn't know he'd been holding in for a few mere seconds, watching as his breath turned into a fog once it left his lips watching as it disappeared. Adjusting the strap on the backpack he had resting on his right shoulder, taking a few steps forward the concrete steps to the complex were covered in a thin layer of ice being mindful of it as he descended the steps, although being mindful of it didn't stop him from nearly losing his footing on the last step. His heart beat felt like it was going to explode out of his chest has he steadied himself taking a few short breaths in. He slowly walked across the street not minding the possible traffic on the road, his head was down when a loud horn blasted in his ears as out of the corner of his eyes a silver hatchback like vehicle slammed on its breaks stopping close enough that if he held out his hand he could touch the hood. Tilting his head back catching a glimpse of the driver who looked genuinely terrified grasping the wheel tightly, his eyes settled on the young girl in the passengers seat her hands on the dashboard. Paying no mind he continued walking to his 1981 black trans am, taking his keys out of his pocket and unlocking the car door and opening it sitting himself in the drivers seat closing the door behind him. Placing the keys in the ignition the car revved to life, he raised his hand tuning the radio. Music filled his ears with an old classic tune, he leaned his head back onto the head rest and waited.
"I don't want to set the world on fire, I just want to start a flame in your heart"
Placing his foot of the gas peddle and letting his eyes settling on the road as his head steadied forward. With little to no effort he shifted the car in gear and sped off, towards the airport which was about an hours drive from him. Glancing out of the corner of his eye to the picture of the boy resting on the passenger seat half under his bag only being able to see the boys eyes. He gripped the wheel a little tighter and rolled his eyes, rubbing the bridge of his nose then checking his phone for the time.
"12:31am" it read as he groaned and tossed it aside.
