The Only Exception (SeKai)

Chapter 1

Sehun wasn't one for group projects. People tended to like him, don't assume otherwise, but that didn't mean that he wasn't still an introverted boy, not to be confused with being shy. He just needed some time alone to unwind every once in awhile. It's kind of hard to do that when you're forced to work with three slackers that have a hard time focusing.

It was a project for their business class in college, and Sehun ended up being the one lonely person in the room as everyone grouped up, leaving him to the lazy fucks in the back. He immediately knew that this was not going to end well.

"Hey, I'm Sehun. You don't mind if I join you guys?"

The dimpled kid, who looked really high, looked to him with a relaxed smile. "Sure, friend. Always appreciate a bit of help."

Needless to say, Sehun knew this was going to be a really uncomfortable experience as the high kid spoke those words.

"I'm Yixing." The kid pointed to himself, then turned his head to the gay couple next to him, that were shamelessly making out. "That's Chanyeol and Baekhyun. Their favorite food is each other's face."

He then put an arm around the other kid next to him, who seemed to be daydreaming. Sehun hadn't noticed him before then, because the kid was so quiet, but, boy, did he notice him now. He was unbelievably attractive, with perfect tan skin and silky hair. Sehun did his best to contain himself when Yixing introduced Sehun to him.

"This is Jongin. He's probably our best bet on getting an A on this project."

Sehun knew he was unbelievably fucked when this Jongin kid smiled so beautifully, sending his eyes twinkling.

Sehun's freshman year of college had barely started and he was already done with everything.

Turns out, this "group" project was actually a partner project, or so it seemed. It was a partner project where three other people would have to sign their names on it after Jongin and Sehun did it all.

"Are you usually the one to do all the work?" Sehun asked Jongin, annoyed, as he turned around to see Baekhyun and Chanyeol sucking at each other's faces again.

"Yup, pretty much. We'd probably fail if they touched the project, anyway. Yixing would mix up numbers and draw random unicorns everywhere, and Chanyeol and Baekhyun would get their man juices on it." Jongin was very blunt. Sehun could appreciate that.

Sehun could also appreciate that Jongin kept his dorm clean, unlike the other three. They had tried to use Yixing's dorm, but they decided that they didn't want to smell like weed and moldy pizza for the next week. That led them to Jongin's room, where Sehun was forced to be in close vicinity with him.

It wasn't doing good things to his brain, but he was able to ignore it and keep his hormones in check.

It didn't help that Yixing was making dirty jokes on the bed behind them, and the couple might as well be fucking each other at the rate they were going.

"Hey, guys." Yixing began another joke that Sehun would facepalm at. "I wouldn't mind getting a D on this project. Then I can go around telling people I got the D."

Jongin groaned very loudly. "I dislike your presence, Yixing."

"You love me."

"Not at the moment."

Everything in Sehun's body was screaming for him to make an excuse to leave the deranged friend group he accidentally got himself into. He wanted to leave so he didn't witness live porn, quite possibly get sexually assaulted by Yixing, or accidentally sexually assault Jongin.

"Hey, I have to go meet a friend." Sehun began his excuse to leave. "So, um, should we do this at the same time tomorrow?"

Jongin looked up with a raised eyebrow, seemingly knowing what Sehun was doing. It surprised Sehun that he could be read that easily. Maybe Jongin was just a mind reader or some shit. Who even knew? For all Sehun knew, Jongin could be a dark wizard and his main goal was to chop his dick off, but there Sehun was, being sexually attracted to someone who was practically a stranger and possible dark wizard.

To his relief, Jongin nodded, allowing Sehun to leave. Sehun felt a bit bad for letting Jongin fend for himself with the three idiots, but he assumed that Jongin had been friends with them for a while, and could handle it. Sehun, however, could not handle it, and fled as fast as possible to his dorm to recollect his sanity.

To Sehun's relief, they worked on the project in the library instead of a confined dorm room the next day. He almost jumped for joy when the three slackers left in the middle of their work session. Less 20-year-old children to babysit, and more work to get done.

Or so Sehun thought.

Jongin was distracting him. A lot. It was so hard for him to tear his eyes away from the tan man, and be inconspicuous about it. When it got too much, Sehun stopped them.

"Hey, want to take a break?"

Jongin ran a hand through his hair then looked as if he were deep in thought for a few seconds.

"I mean, we made pretty good progress with the others gone, so I guess we deserve a break. What do you suggest we do?"

We should fuck, Sehun's mind immediately said. Sehun almost laughed at his own hopelessness.

"We should get to know each other or something?" Sehun shrugged, and looked to Jongin for his answer.

Another dazzling grin painted Jongin's face before he nodded. "Sure. What do you want to know?"

Everything.

"Um, favorite mythical creature?"

Jongin immediately laughed at Sehun's dorkiness, a laugh so angelic that Sehun couldn't help but chuckle too.

"Welp, I now know your a nerd."

Sehun put a hand to his chest in fake offendedness. "I'm offended."

"Hey, didn't say that was a bad thing." Jongin winked then went back to thinking about his answer.

He fucking winked.

Sehun wasn't going to make it through freshman year.

"Um, I think I like dragons." Jongin began. "People would usually say unicorns, but fuck that. I want to be a giant death lizard that breathes fire and fucking flies. It FLIES. Bro, I think I'm becoming a nerd too, because dragons are fucking cool."

That's it. Sehun was in love.

"Me too! Dragons are way better than unicorns. Who needs magic when you breath fire?"

"Right?!"

What Sehun thought was a way of keeping him from falling more in love with Jongin, ended up being the nail in his coffin. Their break turned into a two hour talking session where Sehun found out Jongin was perfect. He loved animals, and was a vegetarian. He played video games, and knew some of Sehun's references. His sense of humor was perfect, having Sehun on the floor practically dying of laughter one time. Overall, he was a chill dude that made Sehun's heart flutter.

Sehun was unbelievably fucked.
