The tips of Taylah's fingers had been numb for six weeks. She thought about making an appointment at a bulk billing clinic, but the doctor might ask her all sorts of questions. She went out to Croydon instead, and stood out the back of the train station, leaning against the wire fence, until the guy arrived. He was late. She no longer cared for those nights with him in that room with the dusty ceiling fan. When she handed him the fifty-dollar note his fingers touched her fingers. She couldn't feel anything because the tips of her fingers had been numb for six weeks. He said, 'add me to your list of regrets'. The railway crossing bells started ringing, so she ran for her train, but when she got to the platform, it was the train going in the other direction. She waited on the bench seat. The green paint was cracked and chewing gum was stuck on the wood threateningly.
