Merely

A leaf flutters quietly to the ground.

The gentle morn smiles on a new season.

The leaf is unaware of how its drop

becomes transcendent. It merely affirms.

A chipmunk leaves its mother’s womb, then breathes.

The gentle morn smiles on a new season.

The newborn chipmunk cares not for its own

miracle. It merely cries, suckles, and lives…

…and life turns in slow eternal motion.

The gentle morn smiles on a new season.

Life swells without care to mean anything

at all. It merely flows and continues.
