My leg shakes vigorously as I sit on the bench, a scowl across my face and my temper bubbling over. "Where is he" I whisper to myself, clenching my books to my chest. I look back at the building I was just in for 8 hours and dread coming back. The parking lot is empty and I pull out my phone for the hundredth time, checking for my brothers name on the screen.

I click on him, seeing no messages, and bring the phone up to my ear. The ringing persists as it has the past 10 calls. "Derek where are you?" I say after the beep trying to remain calm "I've been out of class for an hour. Please come get me" I remember he told me was going to be hanging out with his girlfriend, Liza, but he's brought her to pick me up before.

These are the moments I wish I didn't share a car with him. I roll my eyes and battle between calling my boyfriend or my mother. I know Finn said he was going to be helping his father move all day. His parents are getting a divorce and it's weighing on him pretty heavily. My mother. I sigh thinking of my mother. She's at work, as always, and she would probably end up twisting it around to being my fault Derek didn't pick me up. The baby can do no wrong. He's only a year and a half younger but acts 12. I settle with my boyfriend.

He answers on the last ring "hello?" his deep voice comes out in a huff and a few pants come after

"Hey babe it's me" I say and smile "how's moving?" I ask trying to add friction to my arms with my free hand, decreasing the spread of goose bumps

"Oh, good yeah. Almost got everything unloaded" he tells me "how was class?" He asks

I frown "well Derek was supposed to come get me but has yet to show up" I say leaning back on the bench watching two professors walk together through the parking lot

"Oh that sucks" he says and silence spreads

"Yeah.." I trail off "um is there anyway you could come and get me?"

There's a long pause and I hear a voice on the other end "it'll only take a second" I add hoping he'll leave his father to pick me up seeing as I have no other option

"Yeah I'll be there soon" he finally says and I let out a sigh of relief ready to get out of the chilly wind

"Ok thank you so much" We say our goodbyes and I love you's and get off the phone

We started dating a year and a half ago, I moved here after my dad died and we instantly became friends. He's basically the only one I have left. All the friends I made my senior year went to out of state colleges. I thought it would be best to stay here to save money. I'm in my sophomore year studying to be a Pediatrician....it's what my mother wants. I'd love to be a writer or editor, English is my true passion. But my mother has a different path for my life. Even being here the last year I have yet to find time to make other friends. Finn was in my English class and after one project together we were inseparable. He asked me to be his girlfriend after senior prom and he was my first everything. First kiss, first I love you, and my first time. I used to sneak out and stay at his place some nights but he's a musician so he's out late these days.

He pulls up in his truck and I shake out of my daze. He waves me over and I nod smiling, gathering my books and backpack. "Hey" I climb in, struggling slightly, and kiss his cheek. Welcoming the warmth of the car

He turns down his music "Hey" his blue eyes turn back at the parking lot as we pull out

He's wearing black basketball shorts and a plain white T-shirt, his brown hair is in a unusual messy state. Honestly he looks like he just rolled out of bed. "So did you get everything out of your moms house?" I ask
