There was a girl.
She fell in love with a boy who
Was sweet like candy.
His lips tasted like starburst,
His laughter contagious- an epidemic transmitted by the slightest sound.
Like a radio signal.
A smile that made her smile even weightier than his own.
They held hands in school and at the park,
Ignoring every possible thought more dark.
She was beautiful,
Yet he was too.
An example of first love, at one of its best.
They were that unconventional couple,
The one no one believed would prevail more than a day.
But they did.
They prevailed and prevailed,
Far exceeding the norm
Of first kisses, relationships,
Everything.
Then it ended,
As all things must.
He said, "We'll stay friends,"
While the girl just cried.
They never fought
And she didnt know why.
His reasoning vague,
They had seemed perfect.
They both liked each other,
Until he made a mistake.
But he did not act as if they were friends.
Or even there at all.
Like a piece of furniture,
A lamp, or a chair.
Through it all, the girl saw the boy who used to be her friend.
She wanted him to be happy too.
