A/N: WOOO!!! NEW STORY!!! :) Hope you like this one just as much as the last one
His stone cold face stared up at me from the ground and I screamed.
"Fred, no!" It was all happening in slow motion, the thing I dreaded, and the thing that I spend thinking about every night. I glanced up to see my mother smiling wickedly at me and then disappear into thin air.
My eyes shot open and I sat up quickly from the bed I was laying in. My breathing picked up rapidly. I groaned and rubbed my eyes.
I had to remember where I was, it was that kind of sleep. I was in a hotel room in New York City. Fred was dead. He's not coming back. A tear leaked out as I thought this but I quickly brushed it away. I'm done crying.
I got up and walked to the bathroom, flicked on the light and stared at the person staring back at me. I leaned my body against the counter and sighed.
It had been a week since the battle at Hogwarts. After everything happened, I fled the scene, packed all of my stuff up at the Burrow and placed a charm on my suitcases so they fit in my pocket. New York sounded like the best solution. It was where I lived before Hogwarts, before my dad...before I made a mess of my life and I was determined to make it better.
I looked at my reflection again and grimaced. My hair was curly and standing out in various places for the sweat on my neck and forehead, my make up running down my face from my recent nightmare.
I brought my fist up to the mirror and shattered the glass.
That perfect girl is gone...
I shuffled back to the room and got dressed. I pulled on a plaid multi-colored shirt with some black leggnings, a beanie, bracelets, and my yellow Converse.
I pulled my wand out of my pillow and flicked it so that all my clothes packed themselves and were put away into my suitcases. I brushed my teeth and wiped off my smeared make-up, not bothering to re-do it. And then walked out side with my suit cases in my pocket.
A few days ago my Aunt Narcissa sent me a letter telling me that there was a wizard home in New York City that her friend went to when she ran away from Hogwarts. I thought I'd try to get a room there and find a job.
The manager behind the desk looked at me with wide eyes as I walked slowly up to him. Probably wondering where my bags are. I gave him an equally weird look. "What?" I asked harshly. He grimaced.
"Uh. Ms. Tobias." I nodded my head. " Your total comes down to 570 dollars."
I rolled my eyes. "Whatever." I gave him the money and walked to the revolving door. Uh oh... this thing again. I fell last time I went into this. I slowly pushed the door and walked at same time until I was on the other side and then did an uncoordinated roll out onto the sidewalk.
People passing by gave me funny looks like the manager. "WHAT? DO I HAVE SOMETHING ON MY FACE?!" I screamed at them and they walked faster away from me.
God, people were annoying.
I got the letter out of my pocket and opened it. 365 Mandela street. I thought about the street sign and apparated to Mandela street after checking that no one was watching.
I moved my legs again. "365...3...6...5!" I chanted as I slowed my pace. It was a big black house, with a lot of rooms and a wrap-around deck. There was a sign outside that said, "Russell's Home For Witches and Wizards". Maybe non-magical people can't see it. If they could then these people are stupid.
I strut up to the door and knocked. "Hello! I'd like a room!" After five minutes of standing out there looking like an idiot, I got my wand out of my shoe. "Alohamora." The door unlocked and I walked in.
"Hello?" I called out again.
"Oh good. You aren't a Muggle," a soft voice said. I looked to my right to see a red-haird girl wearing a black and red strapless dress with boots and a beret. A thick French accent reached her lips, but I understood her since I had to deal with Fleur for so long. "You are a wizard, right?" she whispered.
"Yeah?" I whispered back.
"Okay, good."
"Why are we whispering?"
"Alex leave the poor girl alone," an older women commanded. She rounded the corner and gasped when she saw me.
"Oh, Ana. I was wondering when you would show up." I gave her a questioning look. She had blonde hair and piercing blue eyes, just like the small girl next to me. A subtle accent. "I'm Dana Russell. This is Alex. Welcome to our home."
A long pause. I looked back and forth from Alex and Dana's smiling faces. I pointed to both of them. "Okay," I said, drawing out the vowel. "Well, I need a room."
"Of course. Follow me," Dana said and ushered me into what I guess was her office.
This is just the start so be ready for a lot.
LOVE YOU!!
