Fifth week of band
Our teacher asked us to perform
So he could assign our chairs
We had known for sometime
That it would happen sooner or later
I played a couple of notes
Without looking at my book.
My hands guided me.
I had no control.
They were lost in rhythm.
We were told the next day
That I was first chair
That Jackson was second
That Marge was third
And Ed was fourth.
