"Time to de-evilize!" Marinette yells her spell and catches the possessed butterfly. Releasing it from her compact, she waves it goodbye. "See you, little butterfly."
Dusting off his suit, Chat stood up and walked over to her. "Nice one, my lady," he said and grabbed her hand and gave it a kiss. He didn't even notice his ring flashing.
Giggling, Ladybug pushed him away. "You better get going, Chat," she pointed to his ring, "you're about to turn back to normal and, if you haven't noticed we have a crowd."
Chat Noir looked away from his girlfriend and looked at the park they were standing in. To his astonishment, there indeed was a crowd. Sighing, he said, "But I thought we could hang out? I mean, this is an ideal place for a date."
His ring beeped again. He only had three minutes before he turned back into his usual self.
Just then, he got a call on his regular cell phone.
"Hello?" he answered. He recognized the person on the other line. "D-dad? Ohh, yeah! Heheh, sorry about that. Yeah, I'll be right there! OK, bye," he hung up and hung his head. "Sorry, Ladybug. Gotta fly," he said and extended his pole. "We won't be able to see each other for a while- I may not be able to appear in battle. Call me on our cell if you really, really need it."
Chat Noir left the scene.
"But wait!" Ladybug called after him. "What is it?"
"Family stuff!" he yelled back and, with a flash, Chat Noir was gone.
~~~Time skip
Making it back home just in time, Marinette turned back to her usual self right when she landed on the balcony.
"Ow!" yelled Tikki, who was blasted out of her Miraculous. "You really pushed the limits today, Marinette! Yowchie!" Tikki flew over to Marinette's desk and began to munch on a cookie.
Marinette sat at her desk next to Tikki and rested her head in her arms.
"Oh, Tikki," she sighed and looked down at her tiny companion, "I'm sorry. Sometimes I get so caught up with Adrien and I... I... oh!" she put her head in her hands and blushed deeply. "I'm sorry! Every time I think about him, I get this way. But," she raised her head once more, "I'm not sure we have time for each other. Adrien's always busy, we almost never see each other outside of school. And when we do see each other in school, Khloe's always there to intervene."
Marinette got up and walked over to her bed. Plopping down on the soft cushion, she grabbed one of her pillows and held it tightly.
"Marinette! Are you up there?" her mom yelled. "There's a package for you!"
Marinette sprang up and rushed down the stairs.
"A package? For me? Where?" she asked excitedly and grasped at the package. Her mom raised it above her and read the label.
"Hmm... that's odd... there's no name on it..." said her mom.
"Here, lemme see!" said Marinette as she proceeded to snatch it out of her mother's hands. Opening it, she soon discovered that it was a letter. "Oh. It's just a letter," she said with disappointment in her voice.
"Open it!" said her mother. "Anyways, I have to prepare dinner. Be ready in about an hour to eat, dear!"
"Okay, mom," Marinette said and walked upstairs to her room. Laying down on her bed, she opened her letter and began to read.
My Dearest Marinette,
You didn't expect a letter from me now, did you, sweet cheeks? There's been something I've been meaning to tell you for a long time. As you know, I've been recently too busy to be with you, now a days. And there's a reason for that.
I'm sorry, but I can't keep up our relationship any longer- my heart, mind and soul belongs to my real true love, Khloe. I know, it may seem like a shock to you, after all we've been through. But really, who would honestly like a naive, stupid, puny-brained, ugly girl like you, Marinette?
I couldn't tell you in person because I know that if I did I wouldn't be able to contain my laughter seeing your sad, crying, pathetic face. I can't even control my laughter now whewn thinking about it!
Also, about the little secret we kept between us? I told everything to Khloe, because I can tell anything to her- unlike you, whose brain is too insignificant to comprehend such deep truths.
Anyways, love, consider our relationship over.
Sincerely,
Your ex, Adrien.
Marinette dropped the letter, tears building up in her eyes. She had to admit, she was shocked that Adrien would break up with her through a letter. But something didn't quite add up. And something also did quite add up.
It was true- he was usually busy lately, but that was only because being a high school student was tough when you had pressure on you all the time, like saving the world and balancing your home and social life.
But would he really break up with her to be with Khloe? After all the nasty things he'd said about her to him? It just didn't seem like him- not at all!
But what was worse was that he mentioned the secrets he'd told to Khloe. She kept re-reading the last tiny bit in her mind. Also, about the little secret we kept between us? I told everything to Khloe.
Marinette snapped out of her trance right away. No, she thought, there's no possible way he'd do that! Telling Khloe about their secret identities? No way!
But in a way, it did make sense. In fact, everything about this letter did make sense in some way. Adrien was a little distant lately and only seemed interested in talking to her when she was Ladybug. And of course, he was very secretive and didn't tell her a lot of things about his life or his family.
Adrien was a closed book and all Marinette had to do was find his key. The reason Marinette couldn't find that key was because Khloe had it all along. And she swallowed it, determined not to let Marinette get too close to Adrien.
I was just a joke to him and everyone else, Marinette thought. He was probably using me to make Khloe jealous. It was only a matter of time before we were to break up. Tears started to well up in Marinette's eyes. I was their clown, their puppet, their fashion accessory. He could've thrown me away at any time, but he decided to trick me into thinking we actually had something, actually had some sort of connection.
A dull pain stabbed into Marinette's heart. She began to cry.
After all we've been through... She looked at the picture of Adrien on her bedside table. It was all a lie from the beginning.
From the first moment he said hi to me when we first met. From the moment he first kissed me.
Marinette's tears were uncontrollable now.
From the first moment.... he said he loved me.
Listening to Marinette weep from the street down below, Khloe began to laugh. "Now that I've got Marinette out of the way, I can finally get Adrien all to myself!"
A purple mask began to form over Khloe's face.
"That's fine," Hawkmoth whispered to her, "as long as you get the two Miraculous!"
"Yes, master Hawkmoth," said Khloe with an evil grin. "I swear it to you- if my name isn't Jealousy!"
~~~
This was so sad to write :'( but it was necessary for the plot to do so.
If you're confused at the end, what basically happened was that Khloe got possessed by Hawkmoth and he name is Jealousy. Hawkmoth promised her Adrien as a reward for getting both of the Miraculous. However, Hawkmoth doesn't know Ladybug's & Adrien's secret identity, so Khloe has no idea who she's leading him to.
Hope this chapter makes sense!
I"ll be updating chap. 5 tomorrow, so get ready! (Updated 1/4/16)
