Fate's Destiny

This year just past

went far too fast

yet so much changed

to have it last

Right at the start

we grew apart

she in reverie

I in ennui

I saw the ugly change take place

the sense of loss upon her face

when searching for the words to say

and tears collecting every day

Refusal of the needed care

small things we always used to share

now mountains unassailable

the connections left unable

Hallucinations are taking hold

there's always something she's been told

by a him or her that was just there

but we can't find them anywhere

The meds all fight to hold the line

but I know it's just a matter of time

her conversation makes no sense

though the effort is immense

Each day there's something else forgotten

the mood gets worse, demeanour rotten

instinctive acts are lost for good

things if she could I know she would

And at the end of the day when she's put to bed

and confides to me a wish to be dead

my soul's lining is ripped asunder

because it indicates she still can wonder

That in that mind the owner hides

the key to where all memory resides

in a flash erased without a murmur

gone forever through electric failure

So a new year begins

lacking disciplines

and like the slowly setting sun

I watch the remainder vanish

fighting a battle

that

can't

be

won
