It was a nice day outside, and Kenma just came back from a morning jog.
Ever since he started college, he grew out of his shell, and started actually liking volleyball and trying to put some effort into it. But even though he was more social, Kenma still remained the same shy gamer everyone knows him as.
Quietly panting, he reached his doorstep of his dorm room.
"Hn? What's this?"
His golden eyes glanced down at a small package in front of his door. It was neatly tied up, a small cute stamp on the corner, and the normal tan paper wrapped around.
Picking it up, Kenma still had no idea who this was from, and why it was here. All there was on the package was his name and his address. It was not too heavy either, and there wasn't a sound when he shook it.Opening the door and stepping through with the package, he brought it to the living room table.
As he opened it, the mystery object surprised him.
"A notebook?"
But at closer inspection, it was a sketchbook. On top of the book was a slip of paper, and it read;
Hey Kenma! I know it's been awhile, but surprise! I'm (F/N)! I hope as you flip through this old sketchbook you won't be that weirded out, aha. You see, when we went to highschool together, I used to bring my sketchbook everywhere. But since you were always surrounded by your team, you never really noticed me drawing you. Alrighto! I found this in my old house, and I just thought you might want to see this. I hope you have a nice day!
Kenma smiled at the end of the small letter. You and Kenma were very close friends in highschool, but during that time he became too preoccupied with volleyball, and that friendship soon faded away. At times Kenma would regret doing that, since you were one of his first true friends, alongside with Kuroo. But it was too late to change anything.
Tying his pudding hair into a short ponytail, he picked up the sketchbook and went over to the sofa.
The first drawing was just him playing video games. Back bent down, and his eyes narrowed in concentration.
The next was him setting to Kuroo. This was surprising. Normally if you're drawing a person in real life, you would need them to stay still, but this was a practice match, meaning he was moving all over the place. And it seems like a lot of thought was put into this drawing too- all the details in the right places. Beside the picture was a short sentence- keep on fighting Kenma!
Kenma chuckled to himself. He was such an unobservant guy back then, and you took this as an opportunity so many times.
The third drawing was him with cat ears and a tail. This was an unforgettable memory. The whole nekoma team had invited some of their friends to a karaoke night, and Kuroo had thoughtfully brought out cat outfits along too. You were there also, and when it was Kenma's turn to sing, Lev had forced him into an outfit. The drawing was of him blushing intensely, hunched in a nyah position, almost dying of embarrassment. Smiling at this memory, Kenma flipped to the next page. Page after page was just drawings of Kenma or him and his friends. Each one was brilliantly thought out, and it looked like you poured your heart into each of these pieces. Soon after, Kenma stopped at the last picture.
It was a simple pencil sketch of him crying.
It was the day that the third-years were leaving. Everyone on the team went to a barbeque night out, just to pick up the spirits, but late that night, Kenma broke down. And like magic, not before long after midnight, you arrived at his place. His parent had gone out on a business trip, and he had no siblings. You had smiled at him tiredly, holding a couple video games in hand and apple pie. That whole night you tried comforting him, sitting through his quiet sobbing. He remembered when he just wouldn't stop crying, so you just hugged him for a whole hour, occasionally murmuring comforting words. Kenma's finger brushed the paper, trying to re-live that memory.
Next to the drawing was the words- Stay strong ,Kenma Kozume. I know you miss them, but you will meet them once again. Stay strong for them, and for you. I'm staying strong for you too. I love you.
Tears threatened to spill as Kenma closed the sketchbook. Your parents had died in a car accident that morning, and right before you were heading to his house, you had gotten the news. He didn't find out until the week after, when you accidently let it slip.
Yet you still went to his house to comfort him, fully knowing that you were even more broken than him. And then Kenma remembered something during that night. He was so caught up with himself and his sadness that he couldn't hear your crying. The whole night you were trying to swallow your grief just so you could comfort Kenma.
"(Y/N)..." Kenma choked up, "I love you too."
AHHhHH that was suppose to be a happy little chapter that Kenma was suppose to 're-live' memories buT NOpE!! Just had to be a small angst! //bonk
