Humans are such peculiar creatures. Disgusting, simple-minded, and pretty blunt, but fascinating nonetheless. I guess I, admittedly, am too a pretty blunt, simple-minded, and, despite carrying around two to three bottles of hand sanitizer and a travel pack of tissues, disgusting creature. Although, I do like to think of myself as a cool person, but that's kind of hard when you work in a library and haven't touched sports equipment, besides running shoes, in around two years. But who's to judge?
The library was pretty lazy most days, the walls low and the buzz of the air conditioner all but mystifying. The lights were bright and the silhouettes of dead bugs could be seen from them. Old posters of cartoon books saying "Read!" peeled from the walls. Boring. I did, however, admire the kitten poster with the phrase "hang in there" underneath. It was oddly satisfying, no matter how cliche. The library was old and crusty and pretty gross overall, but hey, I loved it. It might have been the people, too.
Over time, I have seen people come and go to this library, many familiar faces, many new ones as well. But none have quite stuck out as much as Reagan Dowry.
Reagan Dowry.
