Char’s pov

“Lu-lucien!?” I croaked in a hoarse voice. “Wh-what are you doing here!?”

A sly smile plays at the devil-spawn’s lips, “well dear brother, Father has requested your audience, and I was kind enough to come and fetch you personally. It appears though… I’ve walked in on something rather…” he pauses for a moment in search of a word he finds befitting, “intriguing.” Now a smile rivaling that of a chesire cat is plastered across his face and I feel sick to my stomach.

I’m so terrified that the only thing I can manage to do is move my mouth in attempt to form words. Nothing comes out though, yet I continue moving my lips as if mimicking a fish. I feel like a fish right now, one out of water to be exact… you know the kind that flails around helplessly on land. Right now I’m flailing helplessly about before my brother.

I was so stupid, to think that I could ever be happy… especially with Ry. I was selfish and stupid and now I most definitely have cost Ry his life. There’s not a chance that Lucien will let him live since he knows it will tear me to shreds. I ruined everything! Perhaps if I beg on my knees he’ll let Ry live.

“Well?” Lucien raises an eyebrow after our awkward pause and Ry turns to face him, concealing half of me behind his back. My heart feels as though Lu is squeezing it in his evil little hands right now.

I start shaking and my eyes are stinging from holding in my fearful tears as Ry intercepts the conversation. “Well what, my lord, if you pardon my asking.” Ry’s voice is firm yet respectful as he addresses my demonic brother.

“Ahhhh, at last someone speaks!” Lu spews with too much fake appreciation for Ry’s words. “I was waiting for one of you to explain what’s going on here.” He gestures between to two of us with a careless wave of his hand.

Ry gives me a quick glance before returning gazes with Lu. “Going on here? I’m afraid I haven’t the slightest clue what you mean, my lord.” Ry just indirectly implied there’s nothing between us at all and I feel a slight twinge of pain in my chest.

“Hmmmm, is that so Mr.Hale? because to me… it looked a tad like the two of you were having a ‘romantic lover’s moment’ what with all the embracing and sweet words of adoration.”

“Well, not to be rude my lord, but such a thing could never be.” Again a twinge in my heart. Such a thing could never be. He might as well have said “I could never love your brother, it’s disgusting!”

“Oh? Is that so Mr.Hale, and why is that?”

“Simply put, two men cannot feel love for each other as you surely know. The church has made that perfectly clear.” Ry seemed to be able to successfully counter my brother’s accusations thus far.

“If that’s your belief… but you’ve yet to explain to me what was going on here.” I can hear the smirk dripping off Lu’s words, and I’m sure he has one painted over his face as well.

“Not to be rude but certainly you aren’t saying you believe in love between two members of the same gender, my lord?” Ry retaliates.

“I believe solely in that which I find to be rational in my own mind, but never mind that, continue on Mr.Hale.

“You wish to know what was going on between us at the moment you walked in, my lord? All you saw was me comforting Char about his fear of having to mount a horse again in our riding lessons. You may know he frets and fears the whole thought of riding and is easily upset by it. It’s my duty to take care of his every need so I was simply dissolving his fears as a part of my duty.” Ry takes a short breath before finishing. “I’m sorry if you mistook my act of servitude as anything else my lord.”

I risk a glance at Lu as Ry’s words soak in. Although it’s all just an act he makes it seem too real for my liking. I relax a bit as I notice that Lucien seems to have bought Ry’s act as he flashes Ry a seemingly kind smile.

“Ah, I fully understand now that you’ve been so kind as to explain it and I apologize for accusing you both so wrongly.” He takes a brief moment to gaze at Ry and it unnerves me a bit and I’m somewhat startled when he continues to speak. “It must be wonderful having such an attentive and loyal servant, I envy you Char.”

He flashes me the same smile he gave to Ry and I force a meek smile of my own. After a moment more of us lingering about Lucien clears his throat.

“Well as I said before I’ve been sent to fetch you per Father’s request.”

I nod my head towards him in understanding and clear my throat as well. “Ahem, very well. Rylan, fetch me my clothes for the day.”

“Right away, my prince.” Ry says in a voice as equally detached as the one I had used and starts bustling about my room.

I direct my words towards Lu now, “If you could wait outside a moment then I’ll be ready to go with you to Father’s chambers.” Lucien gives a quick nod before stepping into the hall and closing my door behind him.

Ry appears in front of me with a bundle of fresh clothes and gives me a soft smile. “Everything is fine now, no need to worry, my prince.” His words warmed me through and through and sent reassuring waves throughout my heart.  He still loves me, I need to remember that. It hasn’t suddenly changed just because Lucien saw us embracing. Maybe I can be happy.

I leaned forward onto my tip-toes and planted a quick kiss on Ry’s lips. “Thank you for fixing that little snag back there, but I think you should really help me get dressed before Lu barges back in.”

He lets out a quiet laugh as he quickly strips me and pulls on my fine fresh clothes letting his fingers move lightly across my bare skin. In what seemed like a matter of seconds I was fully dressed and left longing for more contact with Ry, knowing I’d be without him for a majority of the day today. He must have sensed my displeasure because at that moment he leaned down and closed the space between us in a passionate lip-lock.

We stayed as two mouths moving as one for a brief, but fulfilling moment before being interrupted by Lu knocking impatiently at the door. I pulled away, smiling contently as Ry pulled open the door for me with a smile of his own.

“Alright, Lu” I said marching out the door and a bit ahead of him, “let’s go shall we?”

I heard a rustle followed by a faint murmur as Lucien came and stood by my side. “Alright, we’ll be on our way then, good-day, Mr.Hale.” Lucien sent a grin over his shoulder at Ry and then we were marching in step towards my Father’s chambers.
