Annabeth Chase
After the loud crash from the deck, everyone was expecting a monster of some sort.
Annabeth ran to catch up with the rest of the demigods who and already reached the top deck. She took out her dagger and lined up with the rest if the demigods expecting the worst of the worst.
Only it wasn’t the only surprise she had was seeing an unfamiliar face standing among the group. A man with salt and pepper hair stood on the deck, two swords drawn, ready for an attack. Annabeth stood next to Piper with her hand resting on the hilt of her knife. She paused in her stance and glanced at the man, examing him, figuring out everything she could.
First off it was obvious she was a god, a minor god, so he basically had no real importance, he was confused and worried, but also taunting and evil. He smelt strangely like the sea, which was ironic because they weren’t over the sea, not anywhere close it. They had taken the long way back to Camp Jupiter flying over China and all of those countries to reach California. The man glared at Annabeth then shifted his gaze over to Jason who was barely managing to hold onto his own sword, thanks to his injured wrist.
“I’m Proteus.” The man said, his eyes then became clear, he was definitely from the ocean, no doubt about that. To Annabeth his eyes reminded her of Percy’s but not only did they have that slight touch to it, they also contained more. Images of her past began to replay in his eyes. Her running from her dad and her step-mother along with Bobby and Matthew showed, losing Thalia, and Luke betraying everyone from Camp. The only thing that seemed to keep her grounded to the earth and not fall into the memories was the fact that she knew as Proteus was the god of. She knew what he was capable of and she wasn’t going to fall for his tricks. She blinked once, and then twice, she fell from the memories and found her friends stuck into his hoax. She looked at Piper who was standing stiff and her face was wrapped in a cringe. Annabeth placed her hand on the hilt of her dagger, as Proteus turned around to glance off the starboard bow. Annabeth reached for the dagger and drew it, with holding it and her unusable Yankees cap, which was placed on top of her head. Annabeth ran and snuck up on the god and shoved her dagger in the back of Proteus’s knee.
Proteus turned toward Annabeth, a grim smile stretched on his face as he transformed into the girl Leo saw in his dream, Calypso. Realization hit Annabeth right, smack in the face, “Where’s Percy!” Annabeth demanded, twisting and removing her dagger from the god’s knee and moved it to his neck.
“My, dear Annabeth, please don’t be rash, Percy’s still safe, and in Tartarus. You silly girl, must you know everything? Percy will remain there forever, unless of course one of you wishes to take his place.” Proteus smiled, his grin reaching from friendly to evil.
“There’s only one way out, but millions of ways in.” Proteus added as she patted Annabeth’s dagger away, with Calypso’s hands.
“Go ahead, debate choose, we all know you need Percy to finish this quest successfully.” The god said, shifting to his original form, leaning again the railing. Everyone fell out of their daze and turned towards the god, battle ready.
Annabeth looked at her quest members, she was unsure of who was going to leave them, she knew one of them was going to replace Percy in Tartarus, she knew it.
