...Two...

It was still dark out when my bedroom door opened, I rolled over to see who it was. Daddy was stood in the center of my room, in full armor. Two swords were on his back

"Kiyomi get ready, we must leave" he mumbled. I sat up and yawned, I don't remember sleeping. I walked to my wardrobe and pulled out my black shozoku. I put it on and looked over at daddy who was twirling a kunai while looking out the window

"Daddy..." I called quietly causing him to turn and walk out the room. I followed him downstairs to the front door. The air outside was cold and the smell of smoke was strong. I stepped onto the wet ground, out of the safety of my home. I hadn't been outside in a long time. I looked up, the sky must have run out of tears but it was still hiding beneath its blanket. Daddy handed me a small brown bag, it was heavy. I clipped it onto my belt.

We walked and I followed closely behind him watching only the floor. He and I finally stopped. I knew where we were but I didn't want to think about it. The harsh smell invaded my senses and my empty stomach turned. All I have learnt about this area is death and destruction, but why has daddy brought me here?

"Why are we here?" I asked in a small voice.

"It is time you learn to survive instead of just live. You have a purpose in this world and it is to protect and fight alongside your clan" There was a pause when a large explosion in the distance was heard and orange flickers of fire could be seen

"Don't die. Don't think. Just fight" He took hold of both of his swords unsheathing them. The sound of combat was getting louder

"They're coming, go" was the last thing my father said before running towards the noise. My heart was pounding from fear. I have never fought before. For I am only five. I hesitantly took out a kunai and studied it. I don't want to feel pain. I could feel something coming towards me, it hit the rock beside me and sunk into the mud. It was a shuriken. I began to run. My mind told me stay but my legs would not listen.. After an hour of dodging attacks and metal objects I was so tired and...hungry. I sat down against a rock. I was only there for a second when a young boy with short spikey black hair about my age if not a little younger appeared before me

"Its dangerous to rest here" he said looking down at me. He was wearing plain blue clothes and held a sword.

"I know but I don't feel well" I replied sadly

"Of course you don't" he shrugged

"Are you going to kill me?" I asked quietly

"I could ask you the same" He replied narrowing his eyes at me

"I don't want to hurt anyone. I never have" I whimpered, in fear he was going to hurt me. He slowly outstretched his hand to me

"I'm Izuna" I stared at his hand for a second, he upturned his palm. I took it hesitantly and was pulled up

"Kiyomi" I said shyly. He offered a smile, it was a comforting sight

"You should go home Kiyomi. Before you get injured"

I nodded and began to run.

The next month ~

Father told me I didn't need to fight this week. Our clan was doing well enough to give the children a break. So while father was out, I ventured in the opposite direction of the battlefield towards the lake. Mummy would take me there sometimes, it was quiet there. I sat down by the waters edge. I was only there for a minute when I felt someone approach me

"Mind if I join?" asked a boys voice. I shook my head then turned to him. I had seen him once before on the battlefield, he had a dark brown straight fringe and short hair, he looked slightly older than me and he was smiling. A rare sight from shinobi.
