                                                                  35.

She didn’t believe a single word I said, but she didn’t have any idea of how much I meant it. I hadn’t said that just to make her laugh; I really would make her admit she feels something when she’s near me. Maybe she’s not aware of it yet, but she does. Otherwise, why would she kiss me the way she does? Why wouldn’t she push me away, why wouldn’t she just slap me again? She does like me, I just need to make her confess it.

Kirsten was about to walk out again when I held her by the elbow until she turned around to face me. We were both soaked because of the rain, but somehow she managed to be even colder than what I was. Maybe it had something to do with her personality; she’s already damn cold inside.

“Where you going?” I asked, raising an eyebrow. Was she already going back home? C’mon, she had barely arrived. Though I gotta admit, the last hour has been one of the best for me. She’s stopping to fight me, and she totally gives in when I kiss her. That’s a good sign.

“Outside,” she said as if it was obvious. “There’s too much country in here, and someone needs to tell those people that they can’t sing,” her finger pointed towards the stage and I laughed, agreeing with her on the inside. But c’mon, not everyone that shows up on karaoke night is an expert. We just have fun.

I grabbed my beer, taking her hand and pulling her towards the door.

“Let’s go then.”

She didn’t fight me to get rid of my hands, and I couldn’t help but notice that it was already the second time tonight I did that and she had the same kind of reaction: she just stared at our fingers. She seemed so lost in thoughts that I didn’t dare to interrupt as we walked outside, just to stand in the rain again. I didn’t mind if I got a cold, to be honest. I had to enjoy the moments when Kirsten was not being rude, and I’m afraid after this she might go back to the way she was before.

I’m not sure if she likes me the way I like her – as I had said my own, I not only like her; I’m seriously in love –, but I know there is something inside her that makes her want to be near me. Also, I can’t know if she’s letting me get so close because she’s pissed at Tyler and she wants to revenge him somehow, or if she really is doing this because she is starting to understand that no matter what she does now, I won’t pull away.

Actually, I really want to kiss her again. Is that okay? Because seriously, it feels like I could do that forever, and I’m not even kidding. I don’t know how many times we’d kissed today – pretty much, I may say, considering how bitchy she is towards me at times – but I certainly need more.

“What are you staring at?” she asked, taking the last sip of her beer and looking at me in confusion. I hadn’t noticed I got silent for so long.

“I guess you know the answer,” I said, brushing my fingers on her cheek and kissing it slightly.

“Don’t even think about it, Styles. You already had enough for today,” she whispered with a serious expression on her face. I knew she was rethinking every single move she’d made since she arrived, but I couldn’t help but smile. I was too cheeky today.

“I can’t get enough of you,” I whispered and she looked away, staring into the dark as if she could actually see something on the other side of the street. As she inhaled deeply, letting the air flood her lungs, I squeezed her hand tightly, pulling her closer to me until she was pressed against my chest. Kirsten didn’t have much of an option but to stay there; she wasn’t expecting for that move, so she didn’t have enough time to find strength and pull me away. “You know, you look cute when you try to disguise the fact that you’re blushing,” I whispered into her hair and she awkwardly laughed.
