Short story #2 -

I could smell the rotten food. The dumpster I had take shelter in stunk and made me gag.

What was I suppose to do I a world like this? It was after the big school shooting. I remember my friends falling dead as a group of people wearing masks attacked us.

They shot at my group before anyone else.

I still don't know why they did.

Maybe someone did something they weren't suppose to do.

I'm not sure anymore...

I heard screaming and there was shuffling near my hiding spot. My eyes started to fill with tears as the dumpster opened and someone was heard laughing.

I pushed myself deeper into the trash hoping to not be seen, "Throw the ones that are still alive in here!" I felt weight being thrown into the dumpster. "We'll come back to finish the job later. We need to leave before the cops get here!"

"Dear god, please let me survive this! Please, I'll be better! I'll be nicer to my family, I'll help with my baby sister! Just please don't let me die! I'm the only one left..." He said he was the only one. I felt something sharp poke me in the back.

I quietly grabbed it and saw that it was a piece of broken glass. My free hand slid over to him and covered his mouth, "I have a way to get you out of here, but you need to be quiet and I promise we'll get out of here alive."

He must have recognized my voice from our chorus class we had together. He relaxed as I started to cut and pry at his ropes. It took me about twenty minutes to untie him.

"We're all that's left. They shot everyone else," He said as he helped me open the dumpster.

"We need to talk to the police as soon as possible. I-I want to go home," I said as tears started to stream down my cheeks.

I was told in my ninth grade year that one bad thing can lead to a good thing.

I believe it now. After that day, that day when I watched my friends fall dead to the ground, I stayed close to him.

We both started home school together and then fell in love.

No we didn't have a big wedding and no, it wasn't love at first sight. But yes it was amazing.

I know that my friends are proud. They always were....
