Bondi beach lifeguards had made a new decision in order to give the people better and quicker aid. To give some of them a better chance at survival. 5 minutes could make all the difference and that's why a doctor had been brought on board. The boys in blue would have a doctor for the first time in the tower, joining them, helping them save people.
That's what Madeline Williams was there to do, a 27 year old A&E doctor. She'd been born and raised in Belgium, when she turned 18 she'd joined ELS for 18 months, 9 countries. She'd learned quite a bit of languages, about local cultures, before moving to London where she started to study medicine. And then she'd ended up working at King's college A&E, the place where she'd had her internships. She'd learned a lot in the busiest A&E in London.
And now she was on her way to Sydney, Australia. One thing could be said about Madeline, she was always up for a new challenge. That's why she'd applied for this job after hearing about it and surprisingly she'd been hired. Maybe her language skills had something to do with that, but she was ready to start the new adventure.
She couldn't surf or anything. She had license to dive and teach others to dive, but that was about it. But then again she wasn't there to really save people from the water, she was there to save them once they got out of the water. She was there to lessen the load of the sometimes steady stream of ambulances. To save the people that could be dealt with if a doctor had been at the tower instead of sending them off to the hospital.
She'd watched the series, Bondi Rescue, the reason why she'd applied, there wouldn't be a dull moment then. She would be staying at Harries apparently for the time being, until she found her own place. It was rather nice of them to let her stay over at one of their places. That's what she told herself at least, always having had a stubborn and independent streak. Hell she didn't think just any 18 year old in their right mind would have gone away for a year and a half, travelling the world.
Walking off of the plane she was dead beat. A 29 hour flight had made her a bit cranky, tired and jetlagged. Claiming her two suitcases from the band, before dragging it behind her as she headed for the arrival gate.
Ahead of her she could hear laughter and the same question being asked over and over again. "Are you Madeline? Are you Madeline?" she chuckled to herself in amusement, realising she was about to meet the prankster bunch of the Bondi Lifeguards. Hadn't she been as tired as she felt, she'd probably have played a joke on them, by pretending that she wasn't Madeline. But right now she couldn't be bothered with it, all she wanted was a bed.
"Are you Madeline?" an older guy asked her as she nodded her head. "I am." she agreed, walking up the bunch of four. "finally." he threw his head back with a bark of laughter. "I'm Kerrbox, this is Maxi, whippet and Yatsey." Kerrbox introduced the bunch to them. Whippet and Maxi took the luggage from her and carried it to the car. she was more than happy that she'd changed into shorts and a top on the plane, it was way to hot to wear the jeans and sweater she'd worn when leaving London.
"We'll drive you to the tower, so you can meet everyone else. Harries, your new roommate is still at work." Yatesy informed her as she nodded her in a tired manner. "Tired love?" Kerrbox asked her as they all got in the car. "Yea, I can't sleep on plane, it was a long flight." she explained to them as they gave her an understanding look. She should be used to this, she had 24 hour shifts at hospital, but even then she could take a few naps here and there. The plane had never been a place where she could put her head down.
Arriving at the tower she looked across the beach and couldn't believe how much people were on it already and it was still early she figured. Kerrbox was the one to take her under his wing as they walked into the tower.
"All right mates, this is our lovely doctor Madeline." He chuckled, capping her back softly as she stood a bit unsurely in the tower. If she'd thought they looked good on TV well it was nothing in comparison to the real deal. And most of them weren't wearing shirts either. Well it was certainly going to get interesting that was for certain.
