Serendipity

"I'll take a cup of green tea, thank you."

The waiter took down Harry's order and walked back to the kitchen. Harry sat back in his seat, a booth made from uncomfortable faux leather in a tiny little cafe around the corner from the hotel. He would've gotten into his car and driven to a better place, but after the night he had just had, he was in no mood to face the New York traffic.

Additionally, it was the afternoon, and he didn't know if any regular cafe would be serving breakfast at this time. He thought to himself as he looked around the cafe. Some pop music played softly over the radio, some tv show played on a small tv with some subtitles, New York businessmen drank cups of coffee while tapping away at their phones or writing something down on a piece of paper, a family sat at a big table and laughed with each other, and right next to Harry's table, three teenage girls sat together laughing and chatting with each other.

Harry felt in his coat pocket for the crane, and when he found it, he placed it on the table in front of him. One of it's wings was now bent, and there was a small tear in the tail, but otherwise, it was still perfect. Just at that moment, he saw Cassidy walk into the restaurant.

"Hey!" He said, as she walked by. Cassidy looked over at Harry, and her face instantly brightened.

"Oh my gosh!" She said. "Harry, what are you doing here?"

"I was just here."

"Oh, so this was just serendipity?" Asked Cassidy.

"Serendipity?" Asked Harry. "Could you remind me what that means again?"

"It's a happy accident," explained Cassidy, matter-of-factly.

"Oh," said Harry. "Well then, yeah. It is serendipity." Cassidy laughed. "So, are you waiting for anyone to join you?"

"Yeah. My friend said she'd be here in a little bit, but I think she'll run late. She always does."

"Oh." Harry shifted in his place a little. "Well, if you'd like, you could sit with me until your friend gets here."

"Really?" Asked Cassidy, excitedly. "I'd love to! Thank you so much!" She sat down on the booth across from Harry and settled in, staying as calm as she possibly could, though she was obviously very excited. It was just then that Harry noticed the shirt that Cassidy was wearing: it was a white t shirt, with the words "if I die, tell Harry Styles I loved him" written on the front. Harry couldn't help but laugh.

"What?" Cassidy asked, looking down at her shirt. When she looked back up, she was clearly embarrassed, but trying to hide it. "Oh, that..."

"I'm flattered," Harry said, chuckling slightly. Cassidy blushed. The waiter came back to the table and handed Harry his tea.

"Here you go- oh, who's this?"

"My new friend," said Harry. Cassidy blushed further.

"Oh." The waiter turned to Cassidy. "Well, would you like anything?"

"Um, do you have any birthday specials?" Asked Cassidy.

"Yeah. We have the waffle and egg combo for half price."

"Sounds great. I'll take the egg scrambled."

"Perfect! It'll be out in a little bit. Happy birthday, by the way." The waiter then walked away from the booth and served the table next to them.

"Hey, happy birthday!" Said Harry.
"Thanks," Cassidy said. "Um, would it be too much to ask for a picture and an autograph?"

"No problem. You got a pen I could use?" Cassidy dug through her small gray bag and fished out a thin back sharpie and a small autograph book with the letters LA carved into the front. He signed the book quickly, writing a small message, and Cassidy moved to the opposite booth, right next to Harry. The two of them took a few pictures together until they settled on one that was worthy of Instagram.
