Poem 4: Dream

I had a dream.
A dream of us together.
We were sitting by a stream.
In the sunniest of weathers.
My head was on your lap
While you ran your fingers through my hair.
We were sitting in a comfortable silence.
We were enjoying the fresh air.
I think I had said something funny.
Something to make you smile.
I felt accomplished and I felt I was worthwhile.
But then I remember falling.
Into a space that was pitch black.
I screamed out your name.
But only silence replied back.
I was lost and afraid.
Too scared to move a muscle.
So in one spot I had stayed.
Afraid to look back and discover
To discover that the demons inside me were swirling about.
Whispering hurtful words
Like,
"She'll never love you."
" why do you even try?"
"You worthless dude."
"You should just go and die."
But I stood up. I shouted through the darkness.
I said,
" NO! I'M LIVING MY LIFE AND YOU CAN'T CONTROL ME!!
DON'T FILL ME WITH LIES AND SAY YOU'RE -CONSOLING- ME!!"
My shouts echoed through the dark shattering the black.
The light flowed through, and the colour came back.
I awoke with a start.
Sweat streaming down my face,
And a pounding in my heart.
I was glad it was all a dream.
But nothing is truly as it seems.
I inflict some pain to make sure I'm right.
I flinched knowing that it'll hurt tonight.
I got over it though and resumed my thoughts
I smiled to myself when of your face popped up.
And frowned knowing those demons would be back.
But you're the one I love.
For you I'd fend off any attack.
I know now because of you,
That deep within my heart,
I am a warrior,
and always have been from the start.
