He'd already broken my heart -
did he have to try to
break my spirit
too?
But I believed him
and for years
I tried
not to write
another poem.
And then ...
I took a leap
of perception and
I had to say
what I saw.
I had work to do.
Poems to write.
People to tell:
Don't ever
let anyone
take away
your voice in the world.
