Chapter Seven

I hadn't let my wolf out in along time. I forgot how relaxing it was to be in my wolf form till Dakota and I were racing through the territory. The NightWalker pack wasn't only the strongest pack but had the largest land filled with dense forest.

I come to a stop when I spot a creek in the distance. I motion Dakota over. We both go behind a tree to shift back into my human form. I gingerly take out a bag of clothes hidden on the bark of the trunk. I open it and change into shorts and a comfy shirt.

Coming out of the tree, I glance at Dakota taking a sip from the fresh water. I carefully place myself down onto a rock by her.

Breaking the silence, I ask," How are you adjusting to the NightWalker Pack?"

"My father taught me the ropes of leaving my family and pack, so I'm doing well," she responds with a light smile on her face."

Even though Dakota was smiling, I knew she wanted to say something but held back.

"You're taking this so well. When I realized that Colt was my mate, I actually ran from him."

Dakota's eyes widened.

"But you and Colt look so in love!" She exclaims.

A small blush creeps onto my face.

"I guess but Colt and I have only known each other for a few days. I'm not even sure about my feelings for him yet."

"Wow," Dakota breathes.

A comfortable silence engulfs us. I gaze into the water, and stare at my reflection. I wasn't much. Pale skin, big brown eyes, and long blonde hair. I wasn't as tall as some of the she wolfs walking around and defiantly wasn't as gorgeous as one. Then what did Colt see in me? How could the Fates pair us up?

I furrow my brows in confusion.

I glance at Dakota. She was perfect for the NightWalker pack. Strong, beautiful, and confident. Me? I couldn't even fight. I sigh.

Breaking me out of my thoughts, Dakota suggests we should go back.

I nod and shift back into my wolf form.

In less than ten minutes, we're already in front of the pack house.

I shift silently and go retrieve my clothes were I left them.

Fully changed, I enter the pack house with Dakota, hot on my heels.

Gathering my courage, I ask her to help me pick out my outfit for the date.

Dakota grins brightly.

"Sure, of course!"

I stare blankly at my clothes filled closet.

"So," Dakota drags.

"So," I respond.

"Here we go," Dakota exclaims a light blue dress.

It was causal but still cute. It flowed to my knees with a thin white ribbon tied around the waist.

"Perfect," I breathe.

"Now, shoes!"

Dakota snatches a pair of brown leather sandals.

"These would go great!"

She hands me the outfit and shoos me inside the bathroom.

I strip my clothes from earlier and put on the outfit Dakota picked out. It was perfect well there was one problem. I grab the end of a lock of my hair. It looked dull and thin. I sigh heavily and throw it in a high pony tail.

"Better."

I grab for the door handle and open the door. Instead of seeing Dakota I find a worried Colt in the door frame.

"Is everything, okay?" I ask.

Colt doesn't answer and instead he pulls me into his warm embrace.

"Yeah," he whispers," Blake and I just received news from other packs about other rogue attacks. I just got worried."

"Don't worry I'm perfectly fine. I spent the whole morning with Dakota."

Colt nooded and visibly relaxed.

"You look beautiful," Colt complimented, looking at my body.

"Thank you," I said with a slight blush on my cheeks.

"Ready? I know this great cafe in town."

"Yeah but are you sure you still want to go? I mean because you looked stressed and all. I don't want to waste your time."

I twirled a lock of my hair and kept my gaze on my feet.

"Of course I want to go. Everything will be okay as long as Blake watches the pack while I'm gone. He's a great Beta."

I smiled.

As Colt led me through the doors of the cafe, I laced my fingers with his. Colt's hand was rough probably from all the hardworking he does as an Alpha but they were warm.

The cafe was a small place but people streamed in and out. Must be popular. I wonder why I haven't ever heard of it.

"Hi Colt! Do you want your usual table," a perky brunette says.

"Yes, but this time set it for two," Colt answers, his hand tightening around mine.

The brunette's eyes drifts towards me and widens. Her face breaks out into a full grin.

"Finally brought a lady with you, I see."

Colt chuckles deeply.

The women grabs two menus and leads us to a table in the back of the cafe.

We sit down and order our drinks. The woman then leaves.

"Do you come here often?" I ask.

"I guess you could say that. I come here a lot to think."

"It's nice," I complimented.

"Very. My mother used to take me every day when I was child."

"That's the first time I heard you call her your mom," I notice.

A sad smile appears on Colt's face.

"You're thinking about Lauren. She isn't my mother. Well biologically."

"I don't understand."

"My mother and my father's mate is Carley. She died when I was thirteen in a rouge attack. My father then married Lauren."

I was shell shocked. I would of never guessed that kind of tragedy would of happened to Colt. His life seemed too perfect.

"I'm so sorry."

"No need to be sorry. I've gotten over it. The only thing I'm upset over is that she didn't get a chance to meet you. She would of loved you."

"You really think that?"

"Absolutely. I know you don't think this but your a perfect mate. I see the way you look at yourself and notice how shy you are around people even though your beautiful and strong. I don't understand why you don't think that."

"I guess it's because of my mom. I know she's love me but she's always wanted that perfect daughter and sometimes can be really degrading. It seems like I try to hard to make other people happy."

"You know Charlotte used to be like that," Colt comforted.

"Charlotte? Like your sister?!" I exclaimed.

Colt nodded with a smile on his face.

How could that be? Charlotte seemed so independent. She always told me how ridiculous that most women relied on there mate and parents constantly.

"When Lauren entered our lives suddenly she changed and didn't want to please anyone but herself."

"Well, there's nothing to worry about. It's totally common for inmated she wolves to try to be independent," I comforted.

A light smile danced on Colts lips.

"Were you?" He asked.

I blushed.

"Not me. My mother made sure of that. She actually wanted me to depend on other people. I think she didn't think I was strong."

"Well hate to break it to your mother. But you are."

Grinning I said," You really think so?"

"Absolutely."

That's how the rest of the date went. Colt and I talked about everything from our childhood to what kind of movies we liked. It was amazing. I never have connected with someone so easily. That's when I realized it. Colt was my mate and nothing was going to change that. I was his as he was mine. My heart fluttered knowing that I would have such an amazing person with me for the rest of my life.

Half way through our meal, a new different smell entered the room. It smelt of dirt and blood.

Rogue.

I froze and Colt instantly began to scan the room. His eyes locked on two guys and a girl. They were wearing all black and had grim expressions on his face.

"Rogue," Colt growled.

My eyes widened even further when the girl causally waved towards us. She knew who we were. They sat down and began whispering, occasionally glancing towards us.

"What are you going to do," I asked.

"We can't attack because their are humans around and this is natural territory. I think there watchers."

"Watchers?" I said mystified.

"Lots of times rogues team up. They send 'watchers' to scout pack activity."

I glanced back at there table. The girl was full on staring. When her cold blue eyes met mine she smiled and flipped her long blonde hair.

Colt grabbed his coat and my hand.

"We should leave."

I nodded and followed him out.

I don't know what but something big was going on. And soon.
