little girls

are being taught

that abuse and affection

are synonyms.

when they tell their mother

that a boy pulled their hair

and it is explained as liking her

a simple crush.

she accepts this

with a giggle

and a stomach full of butterflies.

so this young girl will grow up

to be a woman.

a woman who thinks

that when men hit her

it is a sign of love.
