All four boys had been friends since kindergarten and grew up together. They finally decided to all join the army together when the youngest one, Aaron, had turned 18. They served together and Walt was the first to be discharged. They all, however, left for a bit to go home and help Walt and his new wife, Laura, when they had baby Darry. All three boys were devastated when Frank and Laura were killed, for they had been inseparable and like brothers.
