A/N: I will be making a schedule to write for this book, but I don't know if I'll be able to wait that long to post a chapter XD
It will be at least twice a week, meaning Tuesdays and Saturdays. I might sometimes just update for the heck of it. Just know I'll be mostly posting on those days. Thank you!
"Shhh, you're okay," I whispered as I sat down with a whimpering Jack in my arms.
His eyes began to close and eventually fell asleep, and I cradled him against my chest. I slowly and carefully got up and headed for my mom's bedroom.
She told me she was going to watch TV in her room for a little bit, but we both knew that was a lie.
Her arm was hanging off the edge of the bed, a granola bar slowly slipping out of her hand. I pulled it away from her and set it on the table.
She was snoring softly, so I put the comforter over her and tucked her in, all with one hand. I felt proud of myself. I lifted her head and quietly layered pillows underneath her, and dropping her onto them. Thank God she's a really heavy sleeper.
I turned the TV off, along with the lights and shut the door.
I sighed and then held my breath when I remembered about Jack. I readjusted him into my arms, in which he stirred a little.
I sat back down and put the TV on low volume. My eyes felt heavy as I watched the news. I couldn't go to sleep at all last night. My mind was stuck on Brian, how he helped to the nurse, and especially, how he gave me his number.
I felt my head droop and my eyes close. I let sleep take over me.
***********************
I woke up with a start, then didn't move. I heard footsteps from the kitchen and then get louder as I saw through slits in my eyes as dad sat in the recliner, a newspaper in front of his face. I slowly stretched, sounding like a baby dinosaur as I made a noise.Dad coughed abruptly and looked up from his paper to see me. He smiled at me before returning to reading.
"W-where's Jack?" I asked in the middle of a yawn.
"I put him in his crib," he replied. "You fell asleep with him."
I nodded, a little embarrassed, but I didn't know why. Dad was always a little stern and strict but he meant well.
"How long was I out?"
"About two hours, maybe. I came home from work and you were sleeping with Jack." He tapped his chin as he looked at the clock hanging above the TV. "I'd say about two hours."
My eyes widened in surprise. I usually never take naps. I always feel groggy, but I guess I needed it. I feel way better after sleeping, now I can think straight.
I pulled out my phone as I yawned for the millionth time today. I stared at Brian's contact. I shook my head. I'm not ready to talk to him yet.
"Where's mom?"
"Still in bed. She's been sleeping for hours." I looked at him suspiciously before going back into her bedroom.
She was in the same exact position I left her in. Arm hanging off the bed, comforter all over her. I gently laid her arm over her chest and saw something on the bedside table.
It was a bottle of sleeping pills.
