d e a r  r o s e ,

my biggest surprise today was when i opened my door to head to school, and there you were, just standing on my brick porch. all you wore were spandex and a shirt we had made at camp so many years back. you just stood there, your hair plastered to your head from the rain that shot down from above.

i made a move to grab you a towel and warm clothes, but you put your hand out, palm facing me.

“no.” you whispered.

“rose. i'm sorry.” i whispered back.

i didn't know why we were whispering.

i guess it just felt right at the moment.

“goodbye.”

that was the final thing you said, then you turned back down the stone path and to the sidewalk. i watched you make your way to your house, the one right across the street.

and then you were inside your house, gone from my view.
