I received a text from him

That asked how I was doing.

It had been almost a year.

I hit a low point.

My mindset was no good.

But I told him I was okay.

As I stood at the ledge of a building,

I texted him what I hoped would be my final words to him.

"I loved you to the stars and back, but I got a little too close and stole a bit of the light from your eyes. I'm always sorry."

I leaned forward

And let the wind take me over.

Over the edge

And into the darkness.

Just where I belonged.

I expected only the sound of rushing air,

But rather I heard a scream

And felt a hand grab my own

Before I could fall all the way.

It was him.

"Don't do this."

I smiled back with tears in my eyes.

"It looks like you have stars in your eyes again."

But it was only the sheen of my eyes glossed over with sadness.

"I need to let go. I'm sorry for everything, and remember I loved you."

As the words slipped from my mouth,

I let my hand slip from his.

And I fell,

Absorbed in the darkness

Just where I belonged.
