Voices

335 36 10

I hear voices in my head,
But I swear I'm not insane,
I hear them whisper in the darkness,
I hear them calling out my name.

These voices tell me who to be,
How to act and what to say,
They tell me exactly what to wear,
Just being me is not okay.

Their whispered threats and judgmental words,
Tell me I have to belong,
Being different is not an option,
To them, it is just wrong.

The noise in my head was constant,
At first, it was all I could hear,
But soon it blended with the background,
And faded with the years.

These voices don't control me,
I'm my own person, see?
They can't tell me who I am,
I love just being me.
