First but not Really

I don't think that I am even exempted,
From nervousness and fear of being rejected,
That comes from a first meeting which that becomes,
When I have asked to be more than just 'someone'.

Without my briefcase, leather, clutched in my hand,
I become a little jumpy and try to understand,
Why did she say 'yes' when I had just asked her?
Would that mean today would not be a disaster?

As I wait, my watch tells me that it's half past three,
I do wonder why I came so early, should I have gone with the capris?
Without my crisp business suit I feel so out of place,
Would she notice that my glasses kind of frame my face?

Seconds feel like hours as I wait in a trance of nervous daze,
Along the side of a cafe that had features which could amaze.
And in one frantic minute, I turned to my left and finally saw,
Who I had been waiting for, her presence had dropped my jaw.

I stuttered, trying to say a simple 'Hello', but alas,
Instead came a crack in my voice, you laughing with finesse and class.
You then grabbed the sleeve of my jacket dragging me along,
As we started our first date, like two kids in all those songs.

We chatted over the fresh aroma of mocha and vanilla,
Laughed on silly random things walking across, was that a villa?
And as we sat under the shades of pine and spruce to rest,
I had then noticed that though so nervous I felt this day was best.

As constellations had greeted us goodnight, a farewell,
I escorted you on your way home, my emotions somehow fell,
And the moment I dropped you off, all the jitters just came back,
We'd see each other again in business, but a smile between us I'd track.

I would like to thank my friend for giving me the prompt "First date", I had added the small twist of it being in the setting of two working adults, my current life haha. I would love to tag her here but she doesn't have a Wattpad account anymore. :)

To those who want to find encouragement and help through reading and poetry please check out TheLumieres profile, we have a collaborated work there called "Exiting Exulansis" filled with prose and poetry that give encouragement to all. Do check it out.

And please feel free to comment, criticize, and correct me if you want to.

To everyone who has stuck by my work until this point, I thank you so much!
