Kasper's P.O.V
When i woke up, i felt empty.
I sat up, rubbing my tired eyes, struggling to get out of bed.
"Thank God," I said to my self as i got ready for the day.
Just go away. I remembered Kit's words.
Oh right. He hates me now. This was like school all over again. "I can never make people happy."
Once i was downstairs, I realized Nick wasn't there.
"He's still asleep." Kit appeared at the kitchen table. He was looking down.
"Kit?"
"Yeah," Kit was quiet. "I'm sorry. About everything."
"Me too." I thought of my mother, I couldn't lose another person.
"I have something that I need to tell you, Kasper." Kit looked at his hands, then slowly at me. I saw a tear escape his eye.
"Of course. You can tell me." I tried to say reassuringly. What was wrong?
"I never told you. About how I died."
"Oh yeah."
"Well, I was fifteen at the time. My sister Emily, and I. We escaped from the orfinage. We began living alone, in this house. At the time it was abandoned. We thought, Well why not? Nobody lives here anyway." Kit stopped. He seemed to be staring off into the distance.
"So, can you tell me what happened?" I tried not to seem too pushy.
"Well, uh, one night, the cops came. They were going to take us back. I was willing to just listen to them, but Emily, she wouldn't have it."
"No! I'm not going back to that God forsaken place! You can't make me!" Emily shouted at the cops.
"The police became very irritated, and one of them shot her," Kit continued, "Realizing just what he had done, he shot me too, and then they both ran off." Kit fell on his knees, his face hiding in his hands.
"I-," I struggled for words. "I'm so sorry Kit."
As Kit was burying his face, he started to speak again. "While we died, Emily told me she loved me, and that she was sorry she couldn't protect me. Then she was gone."
"Is she a ghost like you?" After I said it, I already knew the answer.
Beat
"No." Kit got up, and walked toward me. His cheeks had tear stains on them.
I couldn't help but smell carmel, and for some odd reason, I felt like it was a sign. A sign that Emily wasn't completely gone.
"I think I know how you feel, Kit," I began, "I've lost someone too."
Kit was very close to me now. He grabbed my hand, and I couldn't help but blush.
"Who?" He asked with concern in his deep mahogany eyes.
"My mother." Beat. "I was very close to her."
Kit's P.O.V
When I heard her say she had lost her mother, I felt the overwhelming erge to hug her. I knew what it was like to lose someone who you loved.
I wrapped my arms around Kasper and held on tight. She seemed surprised, but comforted. I knew now that I wasn't alone anymore. I had someone who could understand me. Someone who would fill that space, that had been empty for so long.
Kasper.
