My Saving Grace

Hurtling through life at a brisk pace

No thought of anything but the rat race

That's how I was, untouched by joy

Felt like everything was only a ploy.

Then you waltzed in like you belonged here

I daren't say you shouldn't have stayed here

Patiently and atom by atom, you worked your magic

You made life-filled and bubbly what was nearly tragic

Day by day, I fell harder and bruised deeper

But you swept it all away like a designated sweeper

You made me see the world with new eyes

Kindling blazing fire from within a block of ice

Every time you blew me away I took for granted

While within me new bursts of joy you planted

Even a thick trunk will fall without its roots

It's common sense; infinite are the fruits

Of your good deeds, now I understand

That you were one of the few blessed

And I was blessed to have you as long as I did

Still, it hurt when you had to leave forever

I know you had no choice, and had you,

You would've chosen to stay put, no rue

But we're all only transitory and merely mortal

All, sooner or later, succumbing to something fatal

Despite all this, I miss you so much, I do

For you're the one who made me who I am

I know you're now probably in a better place

You ought to know you were my saving grace

Sure I can survive now, until Death clutches me

My love, if only you were here to accompany me!

Grace, my one, my only, thank you for all you did,

Above all, thank you for spending your life with me.
