I was sitting in my little apartment, writing what I hoped to be my first novel. It was rainy and dark outside, like normal. I lived in a small city called Multyfarnham in Westmeath, Ireland. I was born in Mullingar and grew up there, but when I turned sixteen my father had gotten remarried. His new wife wanted to move to London, and my dad wanted to make her happy so he agreed. I really couldn't stand her so, I told my dad I was done and refused to move with them. He didn't argue with me or try to convince me to go with them. He gave me some money and I packed up my things and moved to that small apartment. It's now two years later and my own father doesn't talk to me. I finished another chapter of my story and got off the couch.I had been thinking too much about my family and I was starting to get angry, so I decided to go for a walk and clear my mind. I walked over to the mirror by the front door and looked at myself to see if I was acceptable looking to go out. I ran my fingers through my messy, curly brown hair and tried to make it a little less insane. I decided to take my contacts out and put my really nerdy looking glasses on. I pulled my favorite gray sweater on and my white converse. I walked outside and down the street to the little abandoned park that I had never visited. I sat on the rain soaked swing and stared out at the street. I became very enveloped in my thoughts, not paying attention to anything around me. Suddenly, I felt a very cold breath of air by my neck. I turned around and was staring into a pair of bright blue eyes. I couldn't help but stutter because of how shocked I was that someone else had shown up to this little abandoned place.
"H-hi." He stared at me and I saw something like hurt and pain in his eyes. "Are you okay?" He looked down at the ground and then back up at me. He spoke with a thick Irish accent, much like mine.
"I'm fine. I didn't mean to scare you. I'm Niall." He smiled this big, bright smile. I almost melted at how beautiful this boy was.
"I'm Katelynn. Am I in your way or something?" He chuckled and sat on the swing next to the one I was on.
"You aren't in my way. I'm just not used to anyone being here." I continued to stare at Niall. He seemed too perfect to be real. I snapped out of it, realizing that he was waiting for my response.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bother you. I can leave if you want to be alone." I started to stand up but he grabbed my arm.
"No. Please don't leave. I like you being here. It gives me someone to talk to." I sat back down and held his hand.
"So, how old are you?" I looked at him, hoping he wouldn't get awkward or anything because I was holding his hand.
"I'm nineteen. But I act a lot younger than my age. At least that's what I'm told."
"I'm eighteen and my friends tell me that I act a lot older." He giggled.
"They obviously don't know that you come to the park and talk to strangers." Niall burst out laughing at his own comment. He had one of those laughs that seemed to go on forever. I couldn't help but laugh along with him. Once we got ourselves together, Niall ran his fingers through his obviously dyed blonde hair. His roots were coming in, making the lower part of his perfectly quiffed hair, brown.
"Well, we technically aren't strangers anymore. Niall, why do you come here if you know you are going to be alone?" He sat in deep thought for a moment.
"I guess I was waiting for someone like you." Niall looked straight into my eyes. I noticed for the first time how beautiful and piercingly blue his eyes truly were. I felt the heat rise in my cheeks. Niall smiled cheekily, almost like he could read my mind.
"You are very pretty. I don't mean to freak you out or anything. I just felt like I needed to tell you." He blushed and looked down at his feet and kicked up some mulch.
"It's okay. You aren't freaking me out. I think you are very cute." He looked up at me and smiled. I looked down at my phone screen to check the time and realized just how late it was. We'd been sitting here talking for two hours. "Do you want to go out to dinner with me? Or we could go back to my flat and I could cook something."
"I'd love to......but I should really be getting home. My family will be worried if I don't show up soon. Maybe I'll see you around sometime?"
"I'd absolute love that! I'll see you around." I kissed his cheek and stood up. Niall stood up too and gave me a hug. Wierdly, he was freezing cold. "You are frozen! You should really get home before you catch a cold." He giggled at my sensitivity towards him.
"Alright, I'll make sure I get there before I catch something. Bye Katelynn."
"Bye Niall."
We both started walking in opposite directions. As I walked away I kept thinking about Niall. He was so sweet but seemed like he was eternally alone. I continued to think about Niall until I fell asleep that night.
