Until one day when a giant machine came and cut down the tree. The Raries scattered, leaving the tree helpless on the forest floor. Most Raries found other trees to settle in, while others had to adapt to the Ugli world where people
walk instead of fly and live in houses instead of trees. There were 10 families subjected to this fate, including the Maflys.
Emilia Mafly was devastated. Her only known home had been destroyed before her very eyes. Though only fifteen, she is quite smart. She knows that there are only three rainbow trees in the world and that if all of them are cut down, the Raries will die out. But for now, her mother told her, she needs to try and fit in with the Uglis.
