Itachi was carrying me back into the base with Sasuke, Chesire and Sasori behind us. I exhausted all of my energy and wasn’t able to walk three feet without collapsing. Every member of the base was out of their rooms and running around, repairing barriers, collecting data, and planning for a possible next attack. Itachi placed me on the long couch and I laid my head on the pillow. The hideout wasn’t loud, just everyone was doing something.
“GO!”
A loud yell and a bang was heard from down the hall. The voice was booming, and assertive, and could only be one pissed off, orange haired, leader. Konan came running through the living room. She ran fast enough that I was the only one to catch the tears in her eyes. I sighed; I wasn’t going to be bothered with her bullshit drama. Itachi sat down on the same couch and I lifted my head up so he could sit down, my head resting on his leg.
“What could possibly be going on right now?” Chesire asked.
“Place yourself in leader-sama’s shoes for a minute. His base has been found out by the people he is planning to attack, he’s probably very frustrated right now and debating upon whether we should attack sooner or later,” I explained to everyone.
“If we attacked sooner that would cause conflicts with some of the plans to capture all of the tailed beast,” Itachi mentioned.
“If we attack later, the Leaf Village could send more advanced ninja,” Sasori said.
I rubbed my forehead, “Which is why leader is frustrated,” I replied.
Sasuke stood up quickly, “I say we attack now! Who knows when the Leaf could attack again.”
“Sasuke sit down you’re going to give Reika a headache,” Itachi said calmly.
“If we attack sooner, the amount of training will increase tenfold, and you’ll be sore for the day of battle, would you prefer that?” I asked.
Sasuke plopped back down on the couch and pouted.
“Then what should we do Reika?” Chesire asked me.
“Why do you guys think I have the answer to everything? I’m only one person. I only consider the possibilities whether or not we should do something and what the right plan of action could be,” I said slightly frustrated with all the questions directed towards me.
“I think you’d make a better leader than Pein-sama,” Sasori spoke out of nowhere. There were gasps spread throughout the room and my eyes widened.
“There’s no way I’m even qualified to uphold the position as the leader of the Akatsuki,” I said truthfully.
“Now that I think about it Reika is more observant than leader-sama is,” Itachi said.
The room went quiet as we heard the door to Pein’s office opening. No one bothered to speak another about me being the leader of the Akatsuki. Pein walked into the living room and for once, he wasn’t wearing his cloak. Just a fishnet t-shirt and training pants.
“It’s come to my attention that I will need to seek a co-leader to establish the plans for the attack on the Hidden Leaf Village,” Leader spoke as he rubbed his forehead.
“Ooooooh can it be me please?!” asked Chesire even though she knew it would me, everyone in the room knew it would be me. The entire room knew who it was going to be.
“I apologize Chesire but you’re not exactly qualified as leader material,” Pein said smoothly.
“Excuse me? Do you not know my rank on black ops?” She said in a very sassy matter that she would probably pay for if Pein were in the mood.
He ignored her and turned to me, “Reika once you have recovered I need to see you in my office,” He said turning away from the group.
“Yes sir,” I said still in respect of the current leader.
Once he was gone out of the room, I sighed. “Itachi take me to our room please,” I asked politely needing to talk to the Uchiha alone.
“Yes Reika,” He complied.
Once we got into the room, he laid me softly on the bed, and sat next to me.
“What’s on your mind Reika?” he asked.
“You know it’s forbidden for anyone to speak of over throwing the Akatsuki leader, so why would Sasori even speak of such a thing?” I questioned.
“During a time of trouble and where things are starting to fall apart drastic reasoning comes into play and even if that means overthrowing the current leader,” He said quietly so no one would hear us.
“I know Itachi, but still things could go very wrong, and I mean very wrong. The entire Akatsuki put together couldn’t stop Pein and his paths. He’s far too strong for anyone.”
“Maybe you think so, but your new abilities haven’t been tested yet, but there’s nothing to worry about you won’t overthrow Pein, his actions will lead to his own demise.”
I sighed giving in.
“You’re right.”
“Get some rest Reika, you need to have a conversation with Leader-sama and I have a feeling you’ll need all your energy,” Itachi said pulling the blanket over my body and kissing my forehead.
“I will,” I said yawning and letting the sleep take over my body.
