CHAPTER 1:

THE LETTER

I looked at the letter dreading what it may say. Heart pounding in my chest. Please don’t say those dreaded words. I didn’t want to hear it. Part of me wanted to just put it back on the table without opening it but then I would never know would I? I looked at it again. Okay this was it. I ripped the lining of the envelope but for some reason I couldn’t bring myself to read it. I thought about it for a second. Perhaps I should give it to Maria to read and she could tell me if it said something bad and then I’d know whether or not to read it. She’d always be willing to do that for me. But no, that didn’t seem right because this letter was addressed to me. Evelyn Porter. Miss Evelyn Jane Porter. I checked the envelope again. Yes it was for me. Oh gosh why was this so hard? Just read it Evelyn! So I opened up the page, opened my eyes and started reading it. It had an official stamp on it. This couldn’t be good right? Only one way to find out.

This was it.
