The Chase Starts

"Fire?! What's fire?!" I asked, puzzled.

"Something to stay away from! Quickly, we have to get out of here!"

We scrambled out from underneath the couch and looked around us.
Red flames were visible almost everywhere.

I could hear a sound from behind me...
crrrreeeeaaakkkk

I wiped my head around to see the giant clock tower leaning over towards us.

"Run!" I meowed before I took off.

I sprinted as fast as I could out of the living room and nearly jumped when I heard the deafening crash of the clock when it fell.

"Come on, Mother! We're almost there!" I yelled not daring to look behind me.

We were in the kitchen now.

Almost there.....

I jumped onto the table, leaped off it, and raced out of the open door.

When I got outside, I was encountered with large, red machines and humans with lots of gear running into the building.

I leaped out of the way before being trampled.

"We did it, Ma!" I said.

But she wasn't there.

"Mom?!"

I could've sworn she was behind me! But if she's not here, then...

I turned to look at the burning house,
"She has to be in there..."

My thoughts were interrupted by one of my humans who picked me up.

"Thank goodness you're ok!" They said before beginning to stroke me.

As tempted as I was to continue to be softly petted by them, I had to save my mother.

I swiftly scratched their arm and bolted back into the house as they dropped me in shock.

"Come back, kitty!" They yelled, but I didn't stop.

Every 5 seconds, I would hear some kind of wood breaking. Most of the walls had fire on them.
I darted out of the way as one of the heavy gear humans sprayed some type of stuff at a flaming wall with a tube.

I went to the living room, but the clock tower was burning furiously and it was blocking the doorway.

"Mother?!" I wailed.

I suddenly heard heavy footsteps.

It's one of those humans wearing large clothing!

There was two of them, and the first one was carrying...

"Mom!" I howled.

But she didn't seem to notice. She was wailing in pain, her eyes shut as she struggled.

I didn't have much time to look at her before I was quickly picked up by the second human.

I hissed and growled for it to release me, but it did no good.

The human handed me to one of my humans, and they started to hold me tight.

I saw a glimpse of Mother being put into this other type of machine that was white.

"Mom! Snow!"

The human holding me pet my head as they noticed me shifting.

"Don't worry, Snow is going to be ok..."

The giant, white machine was beginning to move away.

No!

I battered my way out of my human's grip and chased after the moving machine.

It began to speed up, faster and faster.

"Stop! Stop!" I yowled.

It kept going, and I began to slow down.
I panted and stared at the machine as it kept speeding forward.

"No! Come back!"

It was hopeless. I pleaded for some kind of miracle.
Maybe this was all just a dream?

I jumped at the sound of a large dog running towards me.
I hissed before bolting onto a fence and leaping onto the other side.

The loud barks of the mutt slowly died down as I kept walking.

Just then, I noticed the strange arrangement of the houses around me. There were much more buildings than I remembered.
The road patterns were off, too!

I thought for a moment.

Am I lost?
