As the Night Breathes

Do you feel the chill of the evening

Setting like dew on your skin

While a gentle breeze

Brushes over you body?

Do you hear the cicadas

As they call from their den

The buzzing of membranous wings

 Motors humming

Like purring lions

And the murmur

Of sleeping souls?

Can you see the glow of the moon

Behind your closed eye lids

And the brilliant pinpricks

Of the evening stars?

Can you feel it

In your bones

In your soul

Everything

Some alive

Some not

Breathing in the night

As one?

Can you feel the beauty

Of this night

As I do

Sitting beside you

Feeling your warmth

And smelling the scent

Of your soap

Like lavender

And sweet pea

Hoping

Praying

That you can feel the evening

Like I do?

I hope that you can

Because then

We can feel the night's wonder

As one

Together.
