So when I was reading through the "Read My Story" contest entries (which were great, mind you) I noticed something I'd never even thought of before. Now, if you've done this, don't feel bad, because honestly I've never thought twice about it....

BUT you may want to avoid this in the future, or change your story description now. Every second story in the "Read My Story" contest started off with "Bobby Jane was a normal girl" or "Tiffany Stibberton was not your average girl"....

Okay, so go check your stories. It's okay, I'll wait. *hums elevator music while you're gone."

Alright, are you back? Did your story have one of those? I see some of you look a bit embarassed. Don't be, seriously I had no idea until now. I checked all of my stories for it as well.

If you don't believe me, go ahead and look through the top stories in the fantasy section. Here are some of the ones I saw just skimming through (I changed the names so you can't identify the story).

Becky is just your regular sixteen year old girl

Stacy wasn’t an ordinary princess.

Erin always thought she had a pretty normal life.

Beatrice lives a normal life.

Sara isn't just a normal girl.

Wendy is 15 and is a really special girl.

Dolly thinks she has a normal average life

Kristy is a pretty normal kid

Patty was just an average girl

Bobby Joe isn’t your typical girl

I'm not making this up, these are direct quotes from the first TWO pages of the list. So, if you're wondering why people aren't reading your story, it might be because your description ISN'T HOOKING THEM IN.

It might be because "Bobby Joe is a normal girl", and nobody cares about Bobby Joe.

Sorry Bobby....
