Ah, Beach City, a wonderful town for relaxation... at least that's what your parents told you.

It was relaxing, to say the least, because of the tranquil environment and the cool sea breeze, but what irritated you were the times when the city mayor would ride around the boardwalk in his huge campaign mobile, which would happen about every 2 hours. From your rented holiday house you could hear quite clearly the chants of, "Mayor Dewey, Mayor Dewey, Mayor Dewey..."

And then Mayor Dewey would stop, climb to the roof of the van, which you thought wasn't a safe thing to do, and would take out his megaphone to say, maybe shout, one of his speeches. It would usually end in a crowd of 3 people who would receive a badge with his face on it. You watched all of this alone in your rented bedroom.

Your parents had gone off on a date and left you with the key. They had wanted you to go out as well, but you couldn't find any courage to, until now, when you'd had enough of his speeches. You quickly changed clothes, grabbed a single dollar, and went outside.

In order to avoid the mayor, you went around the buildng and walked at the perimeter of the town. It was exhausting since you took the long route, but you got to enjoy the pleasantly cool morning atmosphere and the sounds of the wind, sea, and your shoes clicking on the wooden boardwalk. You finally got a break from the sweltry and congested city, where you and your family originally lived.

*you reside at the Beach City Visitor Center

You passed by multiple attractions such as Funland Arcade, the fries shop, and Fish Stew Pizza, which were located on the left side of the boardwalk. They were still closed, unfortunately. To the right was the ocean, its waters a deep blue and giving off a refreshing sea smell.

Soon, after a few minutes of walking, the wooden path ended, and sand lay in front of you. You meant to walk further across the sea of sand when you spotted a donut shop just at the base of a large cliff. There was a big donut on the roof, fitting for the name of the store, but what caught your attention was the 'OPEN' sign. You shrugged and headed over there. You were hungry, and a donut or two wouldn't hurt ♪('ε` ).

You pushed the door open, and a tiny ringing emanated from a small bell situated at the top, signalling the two staff behind the counter, who were a woman and a man, that a customer had finally come.

"Oh, good morning! —Lars, get off of the counter— What can I get for you?" The woman fervidly greeted with a smile towards you, though the rest of her body was working to push off her co-worker (whose name you now knew as Lars) from the counter.

"Good morning," you timidly greeted back with an awkward smile of your own as you watched the two bicker about counters. Giving them all the time that they needed, you espied the donuts that were in display -seemingly freshly made, judging from their sweet and crisp redolence- and chose three of your favorites.

Their bickering was burgeoning, and you mustered up enough courage to let out a 'squeak' to remind them of your presence, but to no avail, for suddenly, the shop's door burst open and in came a boy wearing a red shirt, who, with such avidity, was screaming, "FrEsH dOnUtS!!"

The woman and 'Lars' halted as the new customer slammed into the display glass next to you, almost looking desperate. "Lars! Sadie! Fresh donuuuuts—"

"Yes, Steven, we heard you the first time you screamed," Lars annoyingly muttered to said boy with a sudden dip of his head that had you reaching for him in concern. "Argh, why do we open so early? I could still be asleep in my bed right now, with my blankets and pillows."

"Because you're broke, and so am I, so we need to do our jobs properly so we can get money," 'Sadie' answered with a flick to Lars's forehead. Even with two customers right in front of them, they continued their arguement regarding work policies and responsibilities.

Beside you, 'Steven' sighed, and you would've as well, if you weren't trying to be polite. Instead you pursed your lips and whispered to him, "Are they... always like this?"

"Yep," Steven replied, gazing longingly at the donuts. You did the same. Suddenly, he gasped in realization. "Wait a minute, I've never seen you before! Are you new here?"

"Oh, yes I am," you replied. "My family and I are visiting here for vacation. So far..." you glanced at Sadie and Lars. "...it's wonderful, heh," you laughed lightly. Strangely, you found their bickering a little funny.

"Well, I'm glad you like it!" Steven said with a close-eyed smile, his hand held out for a shake, "I'm Steven, I live beside the cliff and save the world!"

Finding yourself grinning at the last sentence, you took his hand and shook it. Might as well have a conversation if Sadie and Lars won't have a truce.

"I'm ____, I currently live at the Beach City Visitor Center and read fanfiction 'til 3 a.m in the morning!" Now that you've gotten a closer look at him, Steven looked really squishy, and you could have sworn his eyes twinkled with stars at your introduction.

"3 a.m?! That's so cool! Pearl doesn't let me stay up past 10:30," He said with a sad chuckle.

You raised a curious eyebrow. "Pearl?"

"Yeah, Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl! They save the world with me, " Steven explained, yet you were still so lost. Discerning your puzzlement, Steven lit up once again and took your hand. "Come on, I'll let you meet them!"

He dragged you out of the donut shop, fresh donuts forgotten, and you protested not, for your curiosity was over 1000. You wondered who were Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl, and wondered if Steven really saved the world with them. If he did, then you'd have to thank him for bein a super cool hero!

Sadie and Lars continued arguing, not realising their imminent low salaries.
