Chapter 9

"Oh my god! Mom! I look horrible!" I cry out looking in to my mirror.

Today, the second part  of the project will be showcased at school. Costumes. We had to showcase Indian culture and hence I am wearing a saree. Well not just any kind of saree but it's a nauvari saree! (Maharashtrian style saree. Pic on the side.) We also have to put on a skit!

Man! I wish I could have gotten the Gujrati style or even the normal way they tie a saree would do but noo! I wanted everyone to have a fair chance so we put in chits so that all of us can get different states to represent randomly and I ended up selecting this chit and Arnesh is my partner! Hehe! I am happy! But of course on the outside I am acting like I hate it!

"Honey you look lovely!" says my mother as I pout. She puts a little bit of lip gloss on my lips and combs my hair.

"Mom, don't do anything to my hair! Just leave it open."

"Honey, trust me, you will look lovely after I am done with the hair style."

***

Today my dad's dropping me at school. I couldn't get in the bus wearing this pant kind of saree. Sheesh!

I slowly get out of car.

"Oh my god Aarthi!" says someone.

" Oh, Amit. Hi." I say sighing in relief. I thought it was someone from my class. I have known Amit since kinder garden. He is from the other section but we do have a few common classes together.

"You look funny."

"Duh! I hate this."

"Don't worry, everyone will look weird today, especially from your class." he says laughing.

"Well, lucky you. You dressed up as a doctor."

"Yup!" he says smiling happily as we head upstairs. His class had to dress up as professionals from different career fields.
