Chapter Five;
• Confusion in the Form of Zack
[[*not edited*]]
That Monday, I woke up early. I'm not sure what it'll be like to get ready for school with another kid in the mornings, so I'm just gonna get up early and make sure I get the shower first. Which I did.
After a nice long and warm shower, I set open my closet and chose from my array of t-shirts and jeans an outfit. I left my hair down to air dry and headed down to make something for breakfast. It was only seven at this point, so I had plenty of time to kill. I made myself a nice egg and bacon platter with a piece of toast and some orange juice.
The food looked good, but it tasted better. What can I say? I'm a good cook.
I scarfed it down and went back up to my room to check over my pre-calc homework. Everything looked in order except a few problems, which I then re-worked.
I wasn't some super nerd, I struggled a bit in biology and in AP but math was easy for me.
Ryder finally stumbled out of him room shirtless around eight.
Now, I'll never get with the kid or anything like that, even if our parents weren't married, but Ryder is good looking. He's on the weight lifting team as well as a football meat-head, so he has a very nice body. His eyes are an exact replica of his dads, but Ryder's are more harsh where Rick's are soft and kind.
Ryder didn't say anything to me, and he hasn't since he came in yesterday afternoon and found me and Zack making a mess in the kitchen. We were trying to make cookies, but Zack decided to slap the flour all over me and then we ended up throwing cookie dough and chocolate chips at each other.
Ryder yelled at Zack and then he called in some lady to clean it up. I helped her a little bit but she rushed me out of the kitchen, saying she could handle it herself.
Zack left with a promise to call me later, which he upheld. He apologized about the mess and offered a ride for me to school for the week. I declined since Emma picks me up and drops me off. Zack insisted and I told him I'd think about it. Which, I will, I just haven't thought about it yet.
The morning went on, no communication between Ryder and myself, which didn't bother me. Well, nothing was shared between us until I was walking out the door to meet Emma at the gate. "Lexi?"
I turned to face him. "'What?"
"Are you walking to school?"
"No, just to the gate. Emma's meeting me."
"Emma or Zack?"
"Did I not just say Emma?"
"Well, you were supposed to be with Emma this weekend but it wasn't Emma's house I picked you up from and it wasn't Emma in our kitchen yesterday, was it?"
"It's no one of your damn business who I hang out with, Ryder."
"I'm just telling you, Zack isn't someone you want to get involved with."
"And why is that Ryder?"
"He's just not a good guy, Lex."
"Don't call me that."
"Wh -"
I shut the door and started walking up the driveway to the gate. Emma's car sitting there waiting with Emma texting away on her phone.
"Hey miss-ignore-my-friend-all-weekend."
"I did not ignore you. I was just, with someone."
"Cole? Hmm?"
